I am looking to upgrade to a N router. Don't really care about cost. I just want the fastest router and wifi USB adapter combo. I cant figure out the difference. I see N, N draft, N+, N1, N1 mimo. What is the best?

I just laugh at the marketing that claims "N" rather than draft, the can't really claim it until it is ratified and approved completely. It's a risk for the ones that claim true N when a change could be made at the last minute and it may leave their productions functioning at less than desired performance.

Some of the extra things from one vendor may include like + or turbo in the name. Those are special designation they have decided to come up with themselves. I can only recommend that you purchase one solution from one vendor. With things changing so fast in wireless, they test what they have better than interoperability with other vendors. Linksys has been putting out good products for years and has been sucked up by Cisco so that technology is trickling down. If price is not object, just get the true Cisco gear$$$$.

Go to Newegg.com, check out what they have. You can read the specs and people's reviews.

It's better then going down to Wal-Mart or Staples.

I'm thinking about getting an Azus Wireless Router, unless they suck. Then I would get a Linksys, you might pay a bit more then you would from Netgear or D-link or many other vendors. But it's worth it, I guess.

I had two linksys routers. They both lasted about 2 months. Just long enough so I could not bring it back to the store. I wrote to the tech support, they gave me advice after advice for a month....nothing worked. When I asked about returning it to the factory...they never responded. I spent about 80 bucks a piece for the linksys. I bought a 30 dollar belkin and it was plug and play. Has been working great for about a year.

Are you concerned about speed between computers on your local network or internet speed overall? If it's internet speed you are concerned about...the fastest router will not help you if the speed from your service provider is slow. I have internet via cable company and their speed is anywhere from 2-8 megs/sec and my router does around 50 megs/sec but my internet speed is still 2-8 megs/sec due to the limitation of the service provider.

We use a apple router. it works exceptionally well. I dont know how they compare with price (might be on the higher end?) but ours is old and we still have great connections both strentgh and speed wise

Dont have any computer to computer conections just internet access. Would like a faster download speed and streaming video. My wife watches foreign TV online. I link any "N" router will be much faster.....I just want to spend my money one time. I want something that is easy to set up and the right router and USB adapter. I can never find an adapter and router that match...from the same company. I like belkin but have only used one of there routers. It was cheap and works well but its a G. I have found Belkin N and N+ usb adapters but the only routers I have found are N1 and N1 mimo. I have my router on top of a cabinet about 7 feet off the gound. The farthest computer is in the next room.....so one wall in between.

Turbojay is correct in the fact that your internet speed is the restriction. You will have to get with your isp (internet provider) and see about a faster cable or dsl package. Wireless G speeds will be more than enough for most internet packages, just make sure your router's internet facing connection is 100mb or greater as most high speed packages can outrun the old 10mb ports.

Same here..

How long ago were these problems? It was my understanding that Linksys has a lifetime warranty? I've never had problems with the dozens that I have deployed, just one soho vpn router I replaced for someone. Ended up being a bad powersupply for the unit. The WRT54G Linksys router is world famous for it's aftermarket firmware and stability. Maybe you guys got junk models.

Both my routers were WRT54G Linksys. Maybe I was unlucky but when I get two bad products from two different sources....it puts a bad taste in my mouth. I may upgrade the firmware just to play around with it. Never played with firmware.....but since it's junk....
