I got an official looking email from eBay saying that a bid was cancelled on item # xxxxxx and to click on the item # (link) to view the reason for the bid cancellation. I did so and it brought up the standard looking sign in screen so I signed in. As I hit the send button, I saw the URL which was for some other web site and went for the X button at the top right of the screen. I do not know if it went thru so I had to change my password. I guess if I had not changed the password they would have gone after my credit card #. Eight years on eBay and this is the first time I fell for this. In the past when I saw the phony URL I would enter a phony name & password but a friend told me that they sell lists of people who respond so it is best to delete.
By the way, this site installed two "critical object" cookies on my computer picked up by adaware.

Lesson learned, hopefully not the hard way. I always open up a browesr then go to ebay, then my account. Never click a link straight from an email.

I have received several emails like that from eBay and PayPal. EBay says that any message they send will also be in "my messages" on "My eBay" page. I always delete all emails from eBay and PayPal. It's the safest thing to do. Like I said, if it's actually from them, you'll have them on your "My eBay page.
