How easy and whats involved with replacing the tail shaft seal?
Does the tranny have to come apart or can it be done just by removing the drive shaft from the outside??
And is there a special tool needed like there was for the shifter level seal?

Just got the car back from the tranny builder, and it leaks like a seive and none of my cars are ever going back to this guy..warreanty work or not.

all ya need to do is pull the driveshaft out. Its just like replacing a seal on the brake rotor. Pry it off and tap the new on in. Should solve the problem

Good deal, so no special tool required?
Should expect a bunch of fluid to come pouring out, I'm thinking the fluid level is below it if the car is level??

as long as its level it should be pretty good. A little may come out but it won't be bad(at least in my experience)

Use a chisel on the outer lip and drive it toward the center. Do this in two places and the seal will come out very easy with a screwdriver. Use an anaerobic sealant on the OD of the new seal flange. Be sure to drive the seal in squarely and dont get it cocked or it will be ruined. Make sure your yoke is perfect. There should not be any noticable wear on it.

Thanks ya'll, got it in, took less than an hour.

In order to get the seal to go in evenly and not get cocked sideways, I used a new roll of electrical tape and a 2x4 on top of that with a hammer, the electrical tape roll has a center hole that just fits over the drive shaft spline.
I think it was leaking because the old sealant wasn't cleaned out, looked like 3 different colors of sealant, the new came with some soft paint like sealant on it so I put it in dry after getting all the old stuff cleaned out of it.
