Line locks are used to lock the front brakes.

This allows you to do a great big smokey burnout and heat the tires up whilst racing.

It also doesn't lock the back brakes so they don't heat up during the burnout and can hold tons of boost at the line for launching.

Didn't get mine installed today. :(

Lines I believe are 3/16" for the front brakes.

Fitting off the powermaster is metric but the existing line can be reflared to work with the 3/16" supplied fittings and the NPT adapters into the Hurst line lock if you want to put it near the window washer bottle up top.

Gotta check for the bottom mounting position as well.

Should work okay with supplied parts in the install kit since off the prop. valve is standard American/British sizes not that metric crap. :)

If you're mounting it under the car, after the prop valve, you need to have a line coming from the top front brake port off the prop valve to the "in" side of the line lock. Then a line coming from the "out" side of the line lock to a "T" where you've tied the two front brake lines together. Then a plug goes in the bottom front brake post in the prop valve. Hook up your switch and you are done.

Here's a link to some pictures: Line Lock Pics

The top right or bottom right small lines going to either front brake caliper would work into the line lock input side.

Plug up the other line.

You remove both front caliper brake lines from the prop. valve.

The go to a tee that is fed by the output line from the line lock which would be a new 3/16" line as found in the kit or purchased locally. Shortest line should work fine.

Just wanted to note all the effort from many people have gone into help with this and other questions. Especially UNGN's help now and even more effort last July (even thought the picture was indeed crummy :)). The drawing overlay with labels, and the detailed step by step instructions are perfect for those of us who don't know what we are doing...or even more frequently have a pretty good idea what to do but just want reassurance that we're doing the right thing.

The neat thing is: this Buick community appears to me to really be helpful...for the sake of helpfulness. I haven't noticed near as much help on other car sites, nor the same attitude. I know I appreciate it when I call in for help.

Thanks to all,

Bob

Ok, I installed the line lock with my own little pathway. Here goes. I purchased brake line about twice the size of the one that came with the hurst kit. I installed everything the right way, however I used the extra line to run the line lock on my drivers side fenderwall. I am just curious if the extra line is going to cause a problem? (I dont see why because it should all be the same pressure). Secondly, I am supposed to ground one of the wires on the line lock. GREAT! Well there are two black wires coming out of the line lock and they both have the same writing on them! ARRRRRGGGGGH. Does anyone know which one is the negative and which one is postive? Thanks. By the way it is a Moroso Line lock.

I'll go out later today and take some real pictures of the line lock and put them with the original thread. I have a real camera now (and not a box with a pinhole) so I should be able to provide some halway decent shots.

It should not matter. You could use an ohm meter (or multimeter on ohms scale) and check if either wire is shorted (0 ohms) to the case, but since they are not marked I am guessing that they will not be. If they are then one (-) should be close to 0 ohms and the other (+) would be maybe a few ohms.

This is generic info, I have never seen a line lock solenoid. I have nearly electrocuted myself a few times though.

HTH,
Tom

:D

It should matter. Valve has to move in the proper direction. ;)

I liked the part about almost electrocuting yourself Tom.

Are you sure? AC or DC, the magnetic field is trying to pull the plunger into the coil. A permanet magnet will change that, but I assumed that they are only used for a latching solenoid.

I'll admit that I am not up on the practical applications. I switched over to the dark side too many years ago. Software is more forgiving, but I have to pay for hair cuts now.

My Hurst one has color coded wires on it. I thought it mattered.

Maybe not on the other unit.

Right hand rule should appy I think... :)
