Just got back from Bristol... Sad, sad, sad...
NO vendors ! Not 1! 2 swap meeter's..
Quick 32 had: Jim Rock.. he broke. Jim Dodtson.. he went mid 7's. Bill Anderson toasted the clutch the first run.. he's done.
OC broke something in his engine.. He's done.
The only other car in the 8's was Alan Liverman in the "yellow car", at 8.70's
Bob Armstrong went low 9's...
There were a couple late TA'S there, one or 2 TTA's, about 5 or so older Pontiacs, 1 dragster, maybe 20 GN's to begin the weekend with..
Weather was NICE til 4pm Saturday and the bottom dropped out, with 30 /40 mph winds and some rain til late evening..
Today was cloudy earlier, 55*, 10/15 mph winds, 90% humidity, baro in 30.10 range...
Was so bad, that the gate was free today.. just drive on in!

Things don't look good for this race to occur again next yr unless someone steps up BIGTIME!!

jim rock helped me out big time (along with the radious kid who helped me with the wrenching and know how), on friday i was running his alternator and coil pack he even let me use his tools and coil pack tester

what did jim break on his car? and does any one have any pictures of his car?

I decided to turn the boost up (to 20# from 15#)on my car since I was sure the ignition crap was worked out (removed the Digital MSD box and went back to the old school disco looking 7AL2). Engine never missed a beat, first pass I let the clutch out, 1-2 shift was great then the engine just stuck at 8000 rpms for the next 3 gears!!!!!! I came back to the pits and put it at the tightest setting with the heaviest weights we could hang on it and launched it, again 1-2 was ok (got a 1.14 60ft.) and pinned itat 8000 RPMs for 8.55 seconds, it was in 5th gear way before the 1/8 and just burned to clutch beyond use.
Stepping up to a dual disc, stay tuned!
Great seeing everyone I got to see again.

I e-mailed and talked on the phone to someone named Anthony ( Promoter) at Bristol Dragway back in August about posting the event on this boaed. He did, but did not say who he was. He was making up flyers to be mailed. Was supposed to send me a bundle so I would pass them out at the US Nationals in Sept. Never happened. I hate to see this event dry up.
I went but did not take a car. I want to thank everyone who did race. I really enjoy the facilities there.

Wish I could make it to these shows as a vendor but being a one-man show makes it a bit tough to do. I have in the past gone to shows that were within my area but most of the time have had more luck just selling from my website. After adding up the expenses of attending a show it just isn't worth it for me.

Hmmm.. I think you met a bud of mine (not the fuel guy!!) that used to own your GN... Short with a buzz cut... If so your car is the one we chased a supposed ignition prob on for an entire weekend only to find out the prob was some RETARD used a scotchlock for connection of the external pump power.

That car is the MAIN reason I refuse to use scotchlocks on ANY wiring no matter how small or insignificant.

I think that is the main problem...... With nobody promoting the event it is hard for most of the guys to even know about it..... Hell, I think it's safe to say that after Jim Haas said he would not be promoting the event that most ASSumed the event was not going to happen and at the last minute they may of found out about it but it was too late for them to make the proper arrangements to show up....... IF the event is going happen again somebody that is well known and/or well connected in the Buick community must step up to the plate and get some vendors as well as racers to show up! It's kind of like that old saying "if you build it they will come"..........

With that being said we here in Florida as well as the rest in the TB community are lucky enough to have a smart guy (Jesse) involved with the Buick community that will be putting on a Buick event at Bradenton Motorsports Park (which is also a very nice track with a good staff that knows how to prep a track) on the 28th-29th of February...... The event was successful last year and I think it will be MUCH better this year considering it is now a two day event....... So if you or any of the other guys want to come to a REAL Buick event (not some BOP crap) I suggest you get your ass down to Sunny Florida........ If events like Bristol are going to die it would be in all of our best interests to support another event IMO!

yup we met friday morning and he was like "hey, i know that car, i used to own it" ive got a picture of me, him, and a guy name ralph that sold the car to me

he also knows my dads best friend and i can vaguly remember a long time ago about them discussing my gn long before i owned it. its kind of odd that the car was owned in roanoke, then went threw several owners become coming back.

i actually spent most of the week end tracking down a ignition problem. the car used to run STRONG, i out ran a v rod in it, but this week end im afraid that a stock gn would have taken me. me, the radious kid, and jim rock traced my ignition problems down to a alternator that wasent supplying enough juice to the ignition module and to a faulty ignition module my .80 a/r and stock d5 KILLED my 60 foot times and then the tranny would slip and right after the tranny would finally shift (after i let off) it would start popping out of the pipes and power wise felt like i hit a wall.

needless to say, monday, ill be ordering a bunch of new parts. hopefully by next year ill have the tranny and 3000 stall converter in and have all this crap behind me

hey chuck, the 480 mile drive pulling a 8000 lb trailer and make two runs or try any way, it was worth it , watch my son get 2nd in the foot brake class, in his old hail damage 87 gn, he was happy, he went a best of 11.23 he broke out on sunday he was still feeling good about the race , he got double bubbed on sunday but that didnt bother him any, tore my motor down i had 90 lbs compression on 2 cys, 100 on 2 and 120 on 2. i sent my heads to champion this morning. my son james thinks your one smart old man, i told him you pretended to be smart , it was good walking around talking to people anyway, we will go next year if they have it, have a good day , see you at the silverdollar in nov, later oc,

Florida is a long way for guys like me,but it is a good place to run.
The big problem this year[as stated above] was that the event wasn't promoted.
I would bet most guys had there plans set in stone before the event was finally anounced as being on.
What I saw Sat. and Sun was mostly local guys showing up[guys within a short driving distance.
The rain late Sat. definately put a damper on the event for Sun.,however guys still showed up to race.
Kudos to everyone who came out.
Jim Rock had what appeared to be a cracked head problem and of course Bill had the trans/clutch problem.
They'll be back though.

What is needed for next year to be successful,is to have a definitive answer as to whether there will be an event no later than Jan.-Feb so guys can make their plans and book vacation time.
Promoters tend to take part of the "gate" and cut down on track profits the way I see it.
So if the track wants to run it themselves,give us lots of notice.
I would imagine it will be run next year,so maybe the time to get an answer is now.
I'll have to call them and see if they can give us an answer for next year.
I still remember watching Kent Rudbeck crack off his first seven second run down there right after 9/11.
It would be a shame to see such a beautiful track get thrown aside for a lack of interest.

If you and the other guys will come to OK ,Oct 25 ,we will show you how a Buick event should be , over 200 cars in heads up racing last year , It a Ford vrs Buick event ,in heads up racing .
I think the OK Buick/Ford Shootout is second only to the GS Nat's in size as far as buick events go , this in the 9th annual , Free to anyone from out of state .
Very simple format ,everyone races ,team with the most race wins is decleared the winner , Best of all it's heads up racing against the Fords

Well Billy I guess you should think more before you let the mentally retarded come with you to the track. Oh yea one more thing you need to send some of you AQUANTENCES to driving school and teach them that the boxes down the center of the track aren't targets or used for solum testing.
