Has anyone used the Flowmaster 80 Series on the cars? They are supposed to be specially made for the TR's. Any input would be great.
Anyone know of a reliable Flowmaster Dealer?

Thanks!!

I have heard that flomasters are no good. I heard they perform just as good as any other but, they have bad highway drone. I have heard that the dynomax ultraflows are the best. They have a nice throaty sound at idle and have little highway drone and are kinda raspy at wide open throttle. As for any reputable dealears for mufflers. Check summit or Jegs. They most of the time have the best prices. Flomasters are about 80 dollars and the ultraflows are about 59.99 , you can get them stainless for 99.99. Let me know what you decide to do. ;)

hey

well it has always been to my knowledge that flowmaters are used on puls output on exhaust and tr's dont have plus because of the turbo. i would just recomend a ATR muffler.

I think a flowmaster on nearly stock hotair would work fine. They sound awesome expecially at WOT. The 80 series should be really quiet on a turbo car. For all out performance I would try the ATR system. They're straight through so they should flow like a straight pipe. I have them on my car and with a stock turbo they're not bad. With the big turbo they're noticable but far from being too loud. With the stainless ones you can hear the turbo whistle through the exhaust pipes too.

I use the flowmasters because they were on the car when I bought it.Not sure what series but they are stainless and I don't feel any improvement when I disconnect them. They do drone at 65 but I like it so it not a problem.I asked in gen tech last year and a few seasoned TR guys spoke up and said they are not a problem until the low 11 second range. If the ultra's are cheaper buy those.Oh yeah my pipes are 3" inch too so that probably negates a flow problem at my power level.

I've considered all the different brands you mentioned. I'm really looking to keep my exhaust running the same way as the original. I'm planning on running bigger pipes, but in the same style as original. From what I could find the other brands don't offer a muffler with dual in/dual out. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to go with and ATR or Dynomax!!!

Thanks Again!!!

If it was completely up to me I would more than likely go with the ATR or Hooker system. But, I'm 17 and my dad thinks that I should at least keep it looking stock.
He's also concerned that unless I go with a muffler and pipes specially designed for the GN's, I will have trouble with the turbo and too much back pressure. I tried to explain to him that any high performance system will work, because they all have very little back pressure.
I told him that if I was going to keep the stock design, I would have my exhaust guy bend 2.5" or even 3" pipes for better flow.

I have been there.

the atr system is a stock routing replacement. they have many options for the style that you like. so does kirban and many other dealers. they are stock replacements.........
besides no one really looks for a stock looking exhaust. dont have a muffler shop bend it. its not worth the time or money unless they are a reputable turbo shop.
on the backpressure issue. if dmv would let it ideally for a turbo the downpipe would be huge and would stick out of the fender. you dont need backpressure for a turbo it isnt designed that way.
Backpressure is oldschool- the turbo regals were way ahead of their time.
backpressure makes slow spool up- correct me if im wrong anyone. im just talking from what I know.;)
Dont worry about your dad- I was in the same situation a few years ago when I lived at home. He is just trying to help. there is alot to learn about the turbo regals- im just getting past the basics;) - like I said before they were way ahead of their time.

although your dad is right- the atr and hooker system that most people sell is designed for the turbo regals. If you are going to have a stock system bent with bigger pipes, just buy your own mufflers and have them make the pipes. it would just be easier to buy the bolt in kit and do it yourself. besides that is the fun of owning and working on a car. you learn to respect it and enjoy it more.

After seeing the price I probably won't go with the ATR system, because I can't afford that right now.
Dad's starting to see the bright side of redoing the exhaust. Does anyone know anything about the Hooker system. I've heard it is more affordable that the ATR system. How does it sound? Is there a lot of drone? Do mufflers come with the pipes or do they have to be bought separately?
Should the tailpipes exit straight back, or should they curve behind the rear tire?

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

Correct me if im wrong anyone.

The hooker system is okay. It does drone but not like flowmasters. But some people like the sound. That is what it is basically about-the sound. the hooker system comes with pipes- cat back! and I think it exits in the stock location.
