Went to straight pipes today an gained 3 pounds of boost with nothing else touched on car. An as you can see from my other post, "with a bad turbo" have a Te-60 but downgrading to 44 with just 5 hours on it brand new from Precision for only 350.00 got a great deal. Read posts on flowmaster but never knew hoh much they held the car back. Man it rips 2nd gear like a pitbull on a chain!!!!!

They probably do. But they sound good;) I got an untuned 11.50@118 threw them on pump with my old setup.:)

I ahve a flowmaster single muffler setup on my car(was there when i bought it) it soudns pretty good, but do you think switching to the hooker 2 1/2 setup would be better? btw, my car is basically stock

Sure

I think it would help you more with he hooker... But for me with a turbo car the best an cheapest exhaust is now straight pipes. Sure it has a real beefy idle , but when you get a rolling its really no louder then say a ATR Single Shot, believe me I know had 1 on another car. But I like loud some people don't, guess its rea;;y about whatever floats your boat. But with straight pipes this baby scrfeams turbo whistle. Just got thru switching out a bad TE-60 with a TE-44 an the 44 is louder as far as whistle seems weird . But read this somewhere before with thesee 44's having a more profound whistle. "Man I love the look when you pass someone on hte road, an guys in TA's Mustangs whatever seem so intimadated of it" Maybe thats why I like it so much. I have a 01 C5 with Borla Stinger Exhaust Headers an no cats. An still rather drive the Buick. Just something about these cars!!! Can't wait for the cool air to set in!!

Its not rocket science.. Flowmasters sound great and on normlly aspirated engines they work. But on Turbos .. no. Its been rehashed a lot here. The straighter the exhaust path, the higher the hp (on turbo engines).. Glad you found that out and did not replace the turbo or do anything else because you thought something was wrong..

I am taking off my flows for straight pipes. I was really curious how much boost I would gain. :)

Ive been looking for straight pipe ehxaust. Who makes them for our cars, or do you have to make it yourself?

I've had my 2 3/4" straight pipes all the way back exhaust on now for over a year, and I LOVE IT!!! Had mine custom bent for under $200.00!!! Due to the turbo, it really isn't that bad as far as noise is concerned. And that sound!!! Stand behind the car at idle and it sounds like a built V8. Haven't got one ticket for a noise violation either!! ;) Try it, you'll love it too................................................KB

So who didn't already know that flowdidasters SUUUUUUUUCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

Never could stand them, sound like craap and don't flow worth a damm. You may pick up some power over a stock muffler on an N/A car, but there are many Way better mufflers on the market.

Just bought an ATR 2.5" Y-Pipe and Was thinking about going the straight pipe route.......

Right now I've got the stock Y-pipe (W/ Test pipe and 3" THDP) and a set of Wasted 2" Glass Packs w/ no tail pipes. I cut the tail pipes off right at the glass packs because of the "crush" bent 2 1/4" Pipe was crushed even more from parking bariers.

Anybody have any ideas on how much more drone there will be? I'm thinking I'll go 2.75" crush bent pipe from the Y-Pipe all the way back to the stock exit location. I like the whistle with the dump open, but hate the drone (Drone is almost the same with the dump open or closed with the glass packs anyways)

3 PSI!!

At what rpm is it the loudest?

For all you IL GN's, Iggys on Montrose and Harlem is the place to go for custom bent exhaust piping. Pete at Iggys is great and they are cheap!!

Please delete this thread. I just upgraded to the hooker system last week, if people read this I'll never be able to sell my old flowmaster system. :(

You mentioned you picked up a couple pounds of boost. I happen to have a THDP with a dump on my TTA. I have never taken the cap off of however I keep threatening to do so. Did you have dial up the boost or did it make the jump on its own? I would think that you dialed it up as a boost controller of some type would contol the gate independant of what ever the exhaust is doing but I figure I should ask incase I am missing something.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned that turbos do not like chambered mufflers. When the exhaust comes out of the turbo housing it is spinning in a clockwise direction, if you are looking at the front of a turbo. When you push it through a chambered muffler, flow is disrupted and reduced. (Kindof like when water is swirling in a sink and if you stop the swirl, it will drain slower) If you stop the exhaust from swirling it will not ride on the outer edge of the inside of the pipe. This is where you get your velocity for flow due to the larger area on that part of the pipe. Try a spiral muffler like a moroso. Just make sure the spiral is the clockwise direction no matter which way the muffler inlet is.

Hey guys. I just wanted to see what you thought of my exhuast setup. THe car seems a bit on the quiet side. It has dual dynaflow mufflers, with a TH downpipe and ATR Headers. Also, I have a cat on there now (love CA) which will be gone. But I have two options to replace the cat, a test pipe (just s straight pipe) or a dump pipe that can be used to the track. Which is the better route?

BTW..anyone heard of dynaflow?

Thanks,
Ryan

I have them, have only seen a 1/2 mph gain going open as opposed to running through the flowmasters. This was in the 1/8 mile. This is a 11.0 car.!/8 mile was 98 mph through the flowmasters, run up to 99 through the houston pipe open. They are loud at 2k rpm.Jim

HUM!!!!!!!

Well its been a while since i posted this originally.. Yes@ the time I posted this I had 2 chambers on the car. An when it took it to the track, I could not get anymore than 17 pounds of boost out of it/// barnone... So I started thinking about the muff's an remembered they were flowmasters. Needless to say cut them off in favor of straight pipes. AN WITH TOUCHING NOTHING ELSE went to a straight roan an let er rip. BAM 20 pounds boost. End of Story. So if you say you like your flowmasters running 11'0s then I might think they were 1 chambers or someone has done the old hose pipe in tailpipipe water trick to them. Guess you guys never heard of this a lot of mustangs guys do it..

I still have them on my car also. As a matter of fact I have a better setup now then when I went 11.52@118 MPH through the Flows and had never ran my car open up until this year. I went 11.40@117 MPH open. I was only running 17 PSI set when open but still though it was decent even through the mufflers. One thing is for sure and that is with two chambered Flows through 3" duals you hear me long before you see me :D Can't use the head bang because we don't have it here!

My car runs high 12's on street tires at 15lbs of boost thru dual 3 chamber flow's. Open dump it picked up...............nothing.

Friends car runs low 11's on race gas and drag radials. Run high elevens on pump gas and 16 lbs of boost. He currenty runs 3 chamber flow's (not mandrel bent). He picked up 1 tenth by opening it up. Not much of a difference. I think it's all in the combo.
