Ok, I am going to be replacing my Walbro 307 pump with a Walbro 340 (my old pump is 8 years old, and the car was sitting with only 5 gallons in the tank for 6 years  ). The car runs, but im getting random knock, and im thinking its rust in the tank and/or the fuel sock is clogged up. When I remove the tank and drain it, how can I check to make sure theres no rust in there? Also, whats a good way to flush out the tank of any rust/dirt thats in there? Is it ok to fill it up with water and just drain it out (they are plastic-lined in the inside right??)...

1.No, they are not plastic lined. They have a plastic baffle setup in them, to hold fuel around the pump.
2. Water will not clean out the crud.
3. If the sock shows rust, then the best thing to do is replace the tank. Note: N/A tanks are NOT suggested for TR use.
4. Now that you have pumped the $hit thru the system, you should remove all components, such as filter, injs, rail, and clean them. The lines may be rusted internally, from contaminated fuel being in them.
5. The rubber parts of the system may also be "tango uniform", and need to be replaced.

Ok, well, im going to take out the tank tomorrow..If I dont see any rust/crud on the fuel sock, is it safe to assume that theres no rust in the tank? Ive been driving the car like this for months...

Ok guys, took out the tank today, and it was CLEAN inside, not one bit of rust or dirt in it. The car was sitting for 6 years, amazing!!!

Id still get the injectors cleaned, new filter, and a new Turbo Tweak chip installed.

Crud can be flushed out of the tank, at least the majority of it.

Empty bad gas
stand tank vertically
fill tank tube with water up to the fuel pump hole
dump said water out
repeat until crud is gone
grab a hose
syphon the remaining water and crud out
air dry

consider it a temporary fix until you buy a new tank

as for having it flushed you might want to try a radiator repair shop.

Thats exactly what I did when I got a bad load of gas with sediment all in my gas tank and it clogged my fuel sock which then burned out my fuel pump, I took it to a radiator shop and had them steam clean it all out, looked like new when it was done.

Almost the same situation here, older 307 in it and car sat for almost 3 years.

Had a shop flush it and then put a pet **** on it to cure any future worries about rust particles.

Wow, that is a great idea I never thought of before. I'll get that done to my next tank, probably buy it this winter or so.
