If I switched from a stretched SLIC to a FMIC, would it affect throttle response?

It would not affect throttle responce. It would delay boost buildup. How much, l can't say. Maybe some with experience can chime in.

I noticed no difference in throttle response or lag. What I did notice is increase in power and engine temperature at idle in traffic with the ac on.

Don, I bracket race the car, so spoolup time is at a premium. Maybe sticking with the stretched SLIC might be the better choice.

Theoretically, as you increase intake plumbing volume, the more you will delay boost buildup. The turbo has more volume that will need to be pressurized. I'm sure this theory is true also. How much of a delay is the big question. My personal guess, because I don't have any first hand experience, is that it would be hard to measure. I'd bet that most people would not be able to tell.

Norbs sentiments exactly. Gotta push the air farther, so theoretically spoolup would suffer.

If you bracket race the car then it shouldn't matter. Just adjust your dial-in.

I can't see it having a negative affect though since you probably will lauch with some boost and the turbo already spooling. I'd imagine that the greatest difference would be while street driving like when you stab the throttle to pass a car.

That's what I'm curious about. Would driveabilty suffer.

My car has the V2 front mount and that thing spools insanely fast. It has to work with your total combination. My turbo is a hybrid and considered almost a 70 series, Vigilante 3200 (0-pump), 83# injectors, ME-R MAFless and it rips. I run 21psi on the street and from a dead idle can hit max boost in under a second just mashing it to the floor. WAY better throttle response than any of my hotairs ever had and my old 85 GN was pretty damn fast in the response department.

Don is correct with the theory but some of these cars just don't listen and do it anyway. ;) Like when people used to tell me "you can't run 25psi on a hotair, you'll blow it up". I would tell them to go tell the car then since it had been running that way for years.

Thanks for your input Eric, I'm very appreciative. You're correct...combination is critical. Norbs and I bolted on his 70 P Trim on my car last August, and with the 3400 stall it spools quite nicely. I'm hanging out with Norbs too much...I'll likely end up "experimenting" with a FMIC when spring rolls around.

Like Eric, I too run the big V2 front mount. When I converted over from the bone stock IC, I didn't really notice any differences at all (as far as spool up or throttle response). There are of course other advantages to be gained.

Grumpy run's 9s with a stock location intercooler, why do you want to add more weight to the car????????

X2!...Having gone from a stock i/c to a Kenne-Bell "Big Boy" and then to a Precision, I have never felt any increase in turbo lag. This coming spring, I'm going to a Cotton's huge i/c...

Claude. :)

I LOVE my foward mount!!! I will never go back to a SLIC. IF there is an increase in lag I never noticed. Good luck with it. Jon Hanson

Weight gain between the two is negligible. And like Dave says...there are other advantages.

I noticed no difference going from a 22 row stretch to a PTE FMIC.

Well, other than the compressor surge sounding far cooler. :D

Norb's you state::

Don't know who's SLIC Grumpy's running but I'm willing to bet that PTE's SLIC wieghs as much if not more than my CAS V/2 front mount. That thing (although a nice piece) is quite heavy. I weighed one a few years ago and was surprised and what it weighed. Don't ask me what is was as I can't remember. DAMN I'm getting OLD !!

OH ! with my set up, built roller motor, V/2 front mount an old TE-62 and a billet 9/11 3400 stall my throttle response is darn near instant.
