Got the boost leak fixed,..all is good. Am trying to pop the thrasher chip in,... but I can't get the damned old chip out of the carrier. WTF?!?! I'm afraid of breaking the thing!!!
Can anyone give a hint as to how to remove the stock chip out of the carrier??? I'm stuck!!

Uhhh.....pull it out?!? Seriously, if it is in there that snug you can probably gently tug it out with some needlenose, but it shouldn't be that tight.

gently pull on one side, then the other and try to rock it out L AND R

only friction holds it in there

No,...it's not that,... I don't have a carrier for the thrasher chip. So I need to put it in the old carrier I've removed already.

And I can't remove the stock chip from the carrier withour fear of breaking the plastick. (I know there's probably something easy I'm just not doing)

NEVERMIND!

I got it!

:D

Just took some patience and an exacto knife to carefolly bend the pins a tiny bit so they would have clearance.

Sorry for posting this in here,... but I was desparate!

I'm off to try my first chip out!!!

Easy for some, difficult for others. I use my hands, although someone gave me a tip to use an automotive tail light bulb:
Method #1: First, ground yourself. Then hold each side of the carrier between the thumb and fore finger, with the bottom of the chip facing up. Use each thumb to pry apart the sides of the plastic carrier about 1/8 to 3/16 inches on each side. The PROM will pop up on one or both sides. Use a small screw driver or other tool to push the PROM out from the top of the carrier.

If the PROM leads don't pop out enough on at least one side, just push the PROM back into the carrier as follows and try again. Place the PROM and carrier upside down on a solid surface (touch the surface and a ground in that order first). Press on the center of the PROM until the ends of the PROM leads are just below the top of the carrier. The PROM should stay seated; if not, push down just a little more.

Method #2: First, ground yourself. Place the carrier upside down on a solid surface (touch the surface and a ground in that order first). Using an 1157 or identical-sized automotive tail/brake light bulb, run the bulb portion from one end of the bottom side of the carrier to the other. Press hard enough so that the sides of the carrier spread about 1/8 inches on each side, a little more as the bulb passes the center of carrier. With a little practice the PROM will pop up 3/16 inches on both sides. Use a small screw driver or other tool to push the PROM out from the top of the carrier.

got this off of gnttype.org here is the link to the whole article http://gnttype.org/techarea/chips/promfaq.html

No probs on getting it out,...solved. And back from the test drive!

HOLY S$%^!! :)

Awesome! Car runs a LOT better than it ever did before!!!

I only drove around for about 45 minutes or so,...but the entire time I had a grin on my face I couldn't wipe off. hehe

The highest it goes it 17 in first,... but even at 15 it's just soooooo diferent than before. Idles better. Starts quick,...doesn't take 3 seconds.

The car truly pulls like a raped ape now. ha! :D

Now the waiting for the intake. :( (everything done 317, exhaust, green stripes, pump,...dunno,.. I used the Quick6'n'-K.C. method of spraying gas all over hell's Half acre to verify I have good flow) I know,...I'm gonna get bitched at,..no scan tool,...but it's on the way!!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP! Fun Car!

did you ever post back on that thread saying if it did flow enough?

i was wondering if you did or not-

if you hear popcorn popping under the hood, you need to let out-

that thrasher is setup for 45psi of fuel pressure-

get a accurate gauge, usually those that mount ON the rail rattle till they are inaccurate-

get a hammer and a 11mm long socket and smack down on the reg till you get 45psi with the hose off, car running
BW

I kinda spaced replying,....

:D had a friend who about **** himself when I started the fuel pump and he wasn't ready with the gas can. Definately isn't a trickle. The hose has a nice 3" head. I bought a fairly nice gauge and monitored the pressure on the rail,... right at 45 with hose off!

;)

No pop corn,... the car pulls like a mutha! hehehe :D

I am now addicted. I am sorry to say.
I feel I must now go faster. :D

"edit"

Had to ad this,... the guy who sold me the car said it was stock. except the injectors that I noticed. "They failed" he said and were replaced with larger. Then I discover the 237,...... then the pump,.... the car only has 34K,...... Am I dreaming by thinking that it hasn't been abused???

to see if its been raced or abused, look at the underside of the rear bumper, if there is alot of rubber from the tires built up, then yes its had slicks on it before:D

i wouldnt worry too much, they all get abused one way or another!

BW

GET A SCANTOOL!!!!

Itsa on the way!

:D

I wanna go driving but I can't! :( Three beers down and I'm not gonna even go there.

I do have a date tomorrow with a co-worker,...WRX. I need tires!
:D
