OK, can i stress the fact not to buy a 6.0 ford diesel?

July 23rd ish

Truck #2, had low fuel pressure, shut down 100 miles from work, truck is a f550 with the 6.0 ford diesel at 3500 miles

Towed it to ford, 5 days later  they said it had a blown oil oring on #5 injector.

Guess what happened again 70 miles from work this morning?
Low fuel pressure on the rail
Truck has 6200 miles on it

Take a guess how long it will be before they can LOOK at the truck?

1 WEEK

This is at a major diesel ford stealership with hundreds of ford broken down sitting in their lots..

What a joke.
Just think if this was someones personal pickup truck... or if you were on a long distance trip, or making a 1500 mile round trip in 2 days..
Thank god they are going to the 6.4 diesel, it will probably be just as bad.

Yeah, i wont be selling the dodge EVER!!!

BW :)

The 6.4 will have the same block and heads and have the same headgasket problem that the 6.0 has....the injection system on those trucks is really a very poor design though

Well guy's I have said it and argued this for a long time here and other boards, I work there and build trucks not the superduty but the F150's, but I know how Ford operates. And as I have said before I work there but don't own a Ford and wouldn't have one up my a$$.

And I know there are people who will say well they pay your bills, yes they do, but probably not for long, they will be paying Pedro's bill's because that is where these jobs are going, and have already gone.

I have to stop before I get high blood preasure, all I have to say if you guy's only knew what goes on in that place.

thank your democratic house of reps for passing shafta....my family owns a factory and we've lost business to overseas manufacturers too...I'm a republican but I'm really starting to get annoyed with the things going on

as for what goes on in the ford factory....the same can be said for GM plants too...all of my in-laws work there and drive fords and swear to never own a GM product so I'd say it's like that about everywhere

Ford sells alot of these trucks, thats why they dont want to do a recall..

Hmmm... where have I hear THAT before?

- Ford E-series vans/ambulances - 1983-87 - leaking fuel system
- Ford Models - 1986-87 - 3.6 million - fuel line coupler separation
- Ford Focus - 2000-01 - 573,000 recalled for fire
- Ford Trucks & SUVs - 1997-02 - 3.5 million recalled for fire
- An additional 6 million Ford’s under the same fire investigation
- An estimated 17 million Ford’s have the same fire problem
- Ford Pinto - rear end fire explosion - 1.5 million recalled
- Ford Mustang - rear end fire explosion - never recalled
- Ford Crown Victoria - rear end fire explosion - now under investigation…

Ford has the worst overall record of all auto companies on vehicle fire safety.

Ford continues to dance around the issues on it’s “Panther Line” (Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car). Fuel-fed fires in this line of sedans already have claimed more lives than the Pinto when it was recalled in the 1970’s. There are 18 police officers dead, 9 badly burned, and 69 civilian deaths. Ford installed bladder systems in their high performance Mustang, but not police cars used for public safety.

Auto safety advocates and police are fighting back. The evidence is overwhelming. It is time to put an end to this continuing tragedy. You can help by visiting…

This information is very timely. I recently started researching the diesel market and had considered the 6.0L Powerstroke as a candidate. Are all of the 6.0L Ford diesels problematic or is is just the 06 models? Thanks.

if you can handle it get an 02 or 03 with the 7.3...they are a proven motor and very dependable, the 6.0 is going to end up like the old chevy detroit diesel in a few years, you won't be able to give them away if you own one

ALL 6.0 are problematic, cant go wrong with a good ole 7.3 though

The only real problems with the 7.3L are injectors, IPR's and the 4R100.

If only the 5R110W(Torqshift) were available with the 7.3L...

my 4r100 in my old powerstroke had 230k on it and was untouched aside from two fluid and filter changes

I can tell you as a former Ford dealer trans tech that that isn't normal. They had sooo many problems from day one. The worst were the early '01 models with the mechanical diode style intermediate one-way.

Internally, the Ford engineers referred to the E40D/4R100 convertor as Chernobyl(sp?). If that gives you any idea.

LOL I like that reference

my truck was a freak of nature anyhow, it ran stronger than any other 7.3 I've ever seen also...I'm actually looking to sell my lightning and get in to another one

My trans let go at 3k in my 99 7.3 F 350. I replaced that trans and converter at 200k because the converter sounded like marbles were bouncing around inside. The truck has 260K the only failure on the motor has been the water pump at 70k and a few power steering hoses, same injectors and cam sensor.

You have 260K on a 99 stroke and have the original inj and cam sensor??

SWEET JESUS send that info into guiness book of world records.
I am truely amazed.

No kidding that's amazing! The 99.5 models were a bit problematic from glow plugs, to gp relays, injectors, IPR's, injector sleeves and last but not least cam sensors.

Injection Pressure Regulator. Mounted on the drivers lower side of the high pressure oil pump. Runs a pintle in and out to control oil pressure in the heads. This is how they vary ICP(injection control pres.) to open the injecotors further. The pressure is varied from ~450 to 3000psi as throttle demand and oil temp changes. The ICP sensor is mounted on the intake side of the front of the driver's side cylinder head.
