Found a pretty nice 84 T on craigslist afordably. According to the description it has a little rust but the interior and paint are nice. Owner says that the car runs really bad at idle due to the turbo "sucking air in" Says all it needs is a new turbo and will be great. Does that sound like an actual problem and fix or is there something more seriously wrong?

Havnt acutally looked at it but im throwing around the idea of purchasing it. Havnt made any deicsion either way yet. Could definitly make more parting it out than its selling for but I always wanted a SFI regal and kinda ended up with a carb turbo'd cutlass somehow.

It is tough to tell without a scantool...does the car smoke while idling or producing boost? If the car does not idle well it could be something as simple as resetting the IAC Valve.

If the EGR is stuck open at idle, it will idle badly too. My old 84 Dr Pepper car did this when I first got it. Unstuck the valve, threw in new set of plugs (center 2 were caca) and eliminated the bad idle. Still could be a few more things. Scan tool would help.

TRAITOR!!! Just kidding. If he is hearing a sucking sound it sounds like there may be a leak somewhere. Maybe the O ring seals have gone bad? I agree with using a scan tool to see what you can find though.

There was somebody else interested in it too so Im sure it will sell before I get to it. Doubt I'll get to it but it would be nice to know whats wrong on the odd chance I do pick it up.

He said it sounds "like hell" at idle, havnt seen it or heard it though. It wont drive around so as far as he knows it could be anything.

So there probably isnt anything majorly wrong with the car, just a bad sensor, plugs or leak somewhere. Cool.
