Found the noise, good ole #3 exhaust rocker isn't moving a bit... :) I can move the rocker around with my hand!
So, you guys want to help me decide what cam to put in there?
Combo:
Stock heads, ported/bowl work
Stock intake and plenum ported
Restalled D5-around 2800 under boost
TE-61
THDP
50's
Translator/LS1 meter
Full weight, daily driver in nice weather.
Old cam was way too much-ESP race grind, 208/224 @ .050, .450/.493. It did lope nice and sounded mean as hell, but the car will likely go faster with something smaller, so shoot me your recommendations!
Thanks!
Jon

I have a lot of luck with a 218/210/114 I have custom ground. Should work well in your car.

You may want to base your cam selection on not only your current mods, but any near-future upgrades you plan on making. 6PacktoGo has offered a good selection as well. Per it being ground on a 114, it probably does not lope, which is a good thing! "Speak softly, but carry a big stick..." Cams are alot like that. My last custom ground Comp Cam was a jewel to drive, but behaved much like a stocker. It did run 112mph @ 17psi in the 1/4, without ever letting anyone know it was in there. I steer towards the conservative side on cam grinds, per my mentor's guidance and cam design. I will share my last grind with you, if you want to discuss it in an email or PM. I'm just not a fan of grabbing an "off the shelf" grind, that is like sticking a generic stick in your custom application.
What are your goals? Strong bottom end? Strong top end? Strong mid-range? Smooth idle? Or a combo of them all? I'll sacrifice a little mph, if it allows me to run a quicker ET and yet maintain street drivability. However, I prefer to race the good ol' fashioned 1/4 mile, as opposed to taking these bricks out on the highway, and see if they can run topend with a new model F-bodies, etc.

I don't really plan on doing that much more to it in the near future.
Actually, whatever I put in it will most likely get pulled back out this winter, and a replaced with a roller setup. Yes, it's expensive, but I don't want to put a cam in it all the time either as this is my daily driver in good weather. It seems that those people who have a problem with eating cams have a recurring problem.
I don't really care about idle, if anything, I don't mind lope. People around here know what GN's are, so there's no point in hiding.
Off idle and low end isn't that big a deal, if I want to go, I'll build boost and go... :D
The car likely isn't going to be raced all that much, I just can't afford to fix it if it breaks on me, so trying to get something that gets every last bit out of it just isn't that important right now. When I go roller, I'll have it custom ground, but at the moment, I can't really justify the extra expense or time delay.
Thanks for the input guys!
Keep the suggestions coming!

6Packtogo (Alan):

What is the lobe lift of the grind you have ground (218/210/114)??

Deep Enough

I've been waiting to hear you say that, do you know the part # for that cam?
How does it idle? Lope or nope?
Thanks,
Jon

I would go roller or stock. Roller would give you some added insurance so you don't have to take your engine apart again. I have a comp cam 206/206 and am very happy with it. Really can't tell I have one at idle or throttle. HTH. Got it from Weber. Pricey.

I'm tentatively planning on tearing it back apart this winter when funds are more available and checking the bottom end and going roller, I just need something that will work well with my combination for the next month or two until cold weather hits...
Thanks for the input, I am also thinking about a 206/206.
