I had the same problem when i first installed rebuild with a new belt. the stock replacement is a little to long and i to was getting strange knocking noise. Put old belt on and it went away......alittle shorter is better

thanks rich. i dont mean to be redundant but that belt is a little shorter?

FYI, the last three numbers are the length (around) in inches. i.e. 640 is 64.0 inches, the 630 indicates 63.0 inches.
The first 6 indicates the number of ribs in the belt

The 635 belt is the magic number for the these cars :) I had all kinds of noises and replaced the stock belt with the 635 one after researching on TB.com. Very quiet now .....

Here is one of the short threads : http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/general-turbo-buick-tech/272219-serpentine-belt.html

Also years ago when I first got into TBs the first car I bought came with a bunch of notes etc and the former owner mentioned the shorter 635 belt.

Get this puppy.

Not to Hijack, but...

Chris, do you think the 630 is going to be too short?

I had a slight knock after a fresh rebuild. It had 20 miles on it when it started.Turns out it was the water pump bearing on a new pump.Just thought I would add this from my experience in an unknown knock.
