Hello,

I seem to remember a thread a while back asking people how much boost they were running on pump gas. It seemed like a lot of the Front-Mount users were running significantly higher boost levels than us Stockers on pump gas. Is this true??

Secondly, I'm really reluctant to go to ALKY with my new combo. I'm thinking 009s, a bigger turbo (TE-44 preferrably), and a front mount (along with some suspension work). I've been told that a Front Mount is good for 30 HP or so, does this sound about right? My goals are for LOW 12s in street trim, with the occasional high-11s in track trim. Thanks, really didn't consider the FMIC before, but it seems that those of you that have them are very happy with 'em. Any info appreciated.

They are cool but not needed. I've had 2, ATRs and now Cottons. I like both but Cottons is WAY bigger. Your goals are easy to reach with a large inlet stock intercooler. I only run 18# on the street, that's about all your gonna get on 94 octane. (21 degrees timing) Maybe a little more with 18 degrees. If you want a FM, get one! You only live once and you'll never have to upgrade.

The most boost I can run on 91 octane with my front mount with 20' timing chip is 15-16 psi. o2 volts around .825
Any more boost and it detonates.

last year i ran 009's TA-60 with a ESP fm with alky and went 11.96 @113 mph,, with a 26* chip 24 # of boost,,

With my new combo hope to brake the high 10's this summer,

Good luck and have a safe time,
Seneca Lafler,

You really don't need a FM for a TE-44, but it can't hurt. I run the times in my sig. at 25psi with a stock IC with the bigger neck and C-12 (108 octane leaded). I won't be upgrading to a bigger IC until the 11.50-11.60 range because their is really no need IMO. If you have the $$ then by all means do so, but I'd spend it some where else.

Just my .02

I have the TE-44 on my car and just done the Powerstrok FMIC mod to my car. I love it, was only able to run 17psi with my Thrasher 93 and now I can run 19 with "0" knock. Was somewhat of a job to do but I love this big monster. Plus the room I picke dup with that stock IC out of the way, "WHY DID BUICK PUT IT THERE? " Get you a FMIC and you will love it.

I put a CAS V2 on my car several years ago. With a TE44, blue tops and a Thrasher chip I could run about 16.5 psi without any knock. Adding the front mount allows me to run 19-20 with 0 KR.
I would assume that a good stock location setup such as the CAS V4 would offer similar results without the cooling hassels. When I bought the front mount there really were no good choices for a stock location.

Do you have any times before and after the Powerstroke IC mod? Please let me know because I'll be looking into one after I get to the 11.60 range with my current combo.

Plus lots of guys on here would love to see some PS IC results. Post it or email me. Jorge_p80@hotmail.com

What size piping did you use?
Thanks.

got me one just trying to get all the tubes together and hose adpaters and such but i thinj the car will gain a significant amount of hp from this mod on whatever it is placed on weather it be a stocker or hvy. modified you are pulling the stock location I/C out of the engine bay (HEAT BOX) even with the shroud it still soaks in the heat even with the little fan on the balancer...

will be doing soon just do not want to go through the mission but you have to do what you have to do...:D

Sorry no times out of the car as of now...I used the 3" that Jay Banning wrote about. There is more to the Install than you read about,

1. There are some up supports to the header panel that has to be cut
2. You will have to cut some of the plastic battery tray and the tray on the drivers side.
3. I did not see anyway in saving the Inside headlight mounting screw so the high beams are a little off center. I did swap them out though so I did not have to cut the headlight ring. Right on left and vise versa.
4. The front end clip bracket that attaches to the radiator support has to be removed, just 3 bolts.

I do know that I can run 19 lbs of boost on 93 octane with no detonation and my car runs 0 degrees warmer!

With a TE34 turbo I could run about 15-16 psi with a bigneck stock intercooler, and 18-19 psi with a CAS V2 on 93 octane and 20 deg timing. Went from 13.2/102-ish to 12.60/107-ish on the 93 octane (340 rwhp to 391 according to the calculator). Switched to a PTE54 and THDP and ran a best of 12.15 and 111 at 23 psi (all boosts are in 3rd gear with no knock on most runs), 438 rwhp according to the calculator.

I have a EP front mount and a TA49(plus a few other little things). My car went 13.0 @ 108 w/ a RA 93 chip and 16 psi. Don't know if this helps, but it's looks really cool through the grill:cool:

I have a CAS FM, TE-44, red stripe converter, bluetops, Jay Carter chips, THDP, Walbro 307 and a stock rebuilt motor. I ran 11.97 @ 115 with a crappy 1.9 second 60 foot.

On with a Jay Carter street chip on 93 octane I can run 18 PSI without any knock ever.

At the track I run 23 PSI on C16 (~117 octane)

The only cooling problems I have are in traffic with the A/C on.

If you go frontmount make sure you have a good radiator.

I probably didn't need such a big intercooler but I figured that I will upgrade the turbo eventually.

i know this is off topic but it was brought up in this thread... that power stroke intercooler is out of what car/truck?

The intercoolers can be found on newer Ford diesel pickups-3/4 and 1 ton I believe.

As to the ??, I wasn't able to run more boost at all over the bignecked stocker in street trim, but with good gas and higher boost levels, yes, it got rid of quite a bit of knock.
On 91/92 octane I can run around 14 psi, but I do believe that part of my problem was a cam lobe going south and causing havoc with detonation under boost because when I first got the car it was hardly showing any at 16-17 psi, with big necked stocker, and I didn't get the fm on it until later, when I think the cam was starting to go.
It did make a difference tho, even without messing with the rod, car had noticeably more power.
Doesn't run much warmer around here unless I turn the air on, then it gets up around 200 on the freeway. Around town, ~185/190. Before it never got hot, ever.
Turn air off, and it cools right down to 165-170, even on the hottest humidest IA summer days.
Does have the Holmes high efficiency radiator though, so that helps some I'm sure.
HTH

It's true what russ said (you only live once and besides not only would it look f#*@en great you wont have too upgrade again) Just my O2's.
