Front suspension

Is there a benefit to convert the front suspension (upper/lower ctl arms, spindles, tie rod ends, bushings...etc) to tubular style, either with or without heim joints, and fabricated spindles with different angles? Is there anybody out there that does this already or has components in their parts bins? I did this on my 67 Mustang fastback and would like to follow suit on my GN. Thanks.

Was wondering the same think. I was going to rebuild my front end suspension and thought that it may be a better idea to take off some weight and improve strength concerning the aforementioned area....:D

...the above sources are a great start. Thanks. Now I need to find someone who can furnish the lower ctl arms. There was an individual who was autocrossing with his GN. He had widened his stock steel wheels and modified his suspension...a little too serious for me but I would like to drastically improve the ride and handling on mine.

The Global West parts are serious pieces and will get you all the handling improvement you want. Expensive, but the performance is worth it and they're really well made. I've also heard they're working on a line of front lower control arms, but they're not really needed in most cases (unless you want them just for looks).

Dude, got any pix of your Mustang? Sounds sweet. I LOVE the early Mustang fastbacks and "Bullitt" is my favorite flik!

P.S. -- This new suspension forum is a great idea and long overdue. Just my 2 cents!

I would stay with the stock lowers. Spend the money elsewhere;)

I've done the uppers and B body spindles. At the same time I added some Eibach springs all around. The car just flat out sticks! It helps too that I put some 17's on the car, but anyhow, As far as handling with sorry 15" rims? Good luck! Just too much side wall, besides the only performance tire they make for 15's is for the dragstrip anything else is for little light weight import cars that autoX, not 3800 lb. boxes.

If you're planning on doing the B Body spindle swap check
out UB Machine upper arms. They run about $50 each and
are available at most parts stores that cater to circle track
cars. Part # is 14-0809-5R. They have others too so you
can probably find ones for the G Body spindle. Do a search
for "UB Machine" here and at "montecarloss.com" for feed-
back from those who have used them.
Larry.

Apparently they're for Drag Racing only, not good for
wear and tear of street driving. Bummer.

You're right about the TRZ components being for 1/4 mile performance. UB Machine, Hoerr Racing, and Coleman Machine all offer some very interesting suspension pieces. The difficulty will be to pick the pieces to replicate the stock GN geometry (basically a starting point to start tweaking). Is there a place on the web which has the specifics of the stock geometry (i.e. ctl arm lengths, widths, offsets, spindle heights, spindle snout dims...etc??)

FB,
There's some info in the "Another bumpsteer question" at
http://www.montecarloss.com message board on
Rolling Chassis that may be of some help.
Some of the folks there I'm sure could point you in the right
direction.
Larry.

I have front aldan american coilovers. Umi performance upper and lower tublar control arms, proforged tall ball joints, sway front and rear bars, spohn bumpsteer kit ( only because I already had it. ) rear metco upper adjustable arms and boxed lowers. 3 point umi performance front brace and rear strut tower brace and am going to install the rear control arm braces next week.
All in all my bumpsteer issue was corrected by 98 percent, car feels alot lighter. Aslo did the boly prothane kit body mounts, tom lee ps gear new crown jeep shaft and camaro bearing kit. And f41 fender to radiator sipport braces.
And am going from a 225/35 tire to a 235/35/20 tire and replaceing the steering column sphere kit . Just to eliminate all steering wheel play.
