fuel storage

I'm looking for some sort of metal box to store a 5 gal gas can for my mower outside. I can't keep it in the garage because our water heater is in the garage. I'm not really having any luck finding anything in Northern Tool, Harbor Freight, etc.
Does anyone know of anything that would be a good idea?

That kind of stuff that is fire proof is quite expensive.

Is your water heater up on a pedestal? It would be a good Idea if you keep your mower and other outdoor equipment in there. You don't drain the tanks on those items between use do you?

Yes water heater is about 18" off the ground.

I really just have the push mower, and I always close the valve on it when I'm not using it.

If you put the mower in I'd just store the gas can there too. The heater is up. Is it gas or electric? The fumes are what you are worried about and they tend to be low. What's the difference between the mower tank and a gas can?
