Just wanted to ask everyone on this board why my 87 Gn might be eating up all the gas I put in it. The only mods I have are walboro 340 hot wired and boost gauge. I recently raised the boost to about 19 psi and noticed that I was dramatically wasting gas when I get on it. Is this normal or can anyone tell me whats wrong with my car. One more thing i still have the original fuel regulator 233. Your help is greatly appreciated.

How bad of gas mileage are you talking? It might be just
cause your foot is in to it more. If you truely do have poor
gas mileage i'd look to the o2 senor or fuel pressure first.

Stay out of the boost if you wanna save gas. Keep it in the vacum side of the boost/vac gauge for gas conservation.

Bad 02 sensor will cause crap gas mileage. New plugs, wires, tuned right...not too rich.
Sounds like you might be in it alot to know you are able to get 19 lbs of boost.
Plus 19 lbs is alot for pump gas.

Thanks for all the posts. I was assuming that my o2 sensor might be going bad since i wasn't really getting on it. As for my gas mileage I put about 3 gallons worth and it only took me about 15 miles. Would I be right in assuming my o2 sensor is going south or should I check my fuel pressure regulator even though I still have the stock one. Thanks again.

FWIW & IMHO, and none of my business, but could possibly use a more accurate method of checking your mileage: Gas gauges are generally inaccurate at both extremes of the guage, but are nortoriously inaccurate at the lower end of the spectrum.
You might want to try this method, which has always worked for me.
Fill the tank till it shut off about the 10th time, record your mileage, and set the trip odometer.
Do the same after several days of use. As a general rule of thumb, the more the distance, the more the accurate teh reading.
It is important to fill the tank on the second round the same method as the first time. Same pump, same 10 times or whatever you used the first time to determine that the tank is full, car heading in the same direction and approximately the same location. Divide the miles traveled by the gallons taken on, complete to at least the tenth digit. Same approximate temperature also plays a part in the equation, but i do not know how much.
For instance 200 miles traveled and taking on 10 gallons of gas,(filling to the same approxinate depth in the tank) equals 20 MPG.

I am curious how this affects your calculation as above of 3 gallons of gas went about 15 miles= 5 MPG= ouch

Turn the boost back down unless you are running 100 octane or have a very low timing chip. You'll blow that thing up in no time!

hhhmmm

HI,

Gas mileage?

As Wells said, When i had my '94 Z28, the last 1/2 of the tank didn't last as long as the first, I guess because of the slopes and angles in the tank.

Could it be that maybe something is dragging? Maybe yo uhave a bad caliper or a collapsed brake hose and the brakes aren't releasing? How about the emergency brakes? Are they possibly out of adjustment or stuck?

what do I know?

Bill
