Ok, filling up at Exxon in my friends jeep, I noticed a little sticker saying they put Ethanol in their gas. If were feeding alky thru the gas lines, why not just add a measured amount of alky to a tank of gas, and would it have the same effect(s) as an alky setup?

Just a a wild shot here, I really have no idea if it would make any difference in there.

I think that would make your car run like crap when you're not into the higher levels of boost, because the fuel would be relatively high octane. It would get expensive too, since you'd be burning alky all the time, instead of the 1% of the time when you really needed it. Alky is typically set to "come in" at 15 psi, to prevent knock at higher boost levels. Then it shuts off at low boost (or no boost) so your car can run like a normal car. Also the mixing could be a problem, you'd have to ensure uniform mixing between the alky and the fuel, and I'm sure they're different densities. It'd be sweet if it did work though!

Excessive amounts of alchy in the tank would lock up the fuel pump and/or injectors.

I don't believe that would work because they're two different type fuels, with different densities, different btu's, different stoichiometry.
The problem is your car's (ecm) fueling tables were calculated for gasoline. Any added alcohol in sufficient quanity to affect power would also affect the combustion a/f ratio. I don't think you'll see it in the O2's, and the ecm wouldn't have a clue.

The alky would eat the pump, injectors, possibly regulator, and any rubber it might happen to find

Alcohol

What about (Xlene) I think thats how you spell it , in the tank to help boost octain . Some of the the guys on these posts were talking about mixing it 3 gal. gas 93 oct. to 1 part xlene for about a 100 oct. mix .

Snappy, do a search on here for "Xylene". I have read a ton about it, but don't remember much, since I'm gonna go with the alky kit myself. Good stuff though, if you're only wanting the really high boost at the track. There are home made recepies out there too. Good luck

A lot of the gas up north gets some ethanol put in it. Sometimes as much as 5%. This was to reduce emissions. I don't know if they still do it or not.
