Time to yank out the motor and rebuild it. Is this the best kit to get? Are there other complete kits available out there? Also, which is the best head gasket composite or steel?

Gasket Kit, Engine Overhaul (Contains all engine gaskets EXCEPT valve seals)
part # 12328748 .

Gasket, Head gaskets (composite) part # 25528486
Gasket, Head gasket (steel shim) part # 25524599

NAPA sells a complete kit but some of the gaskets i dont like, such as the timing cover gaskets with the seal, and their head gaskets that come in that regular kit- but they do sell correct style factory head gaskets made by victor reinze

what i would do is....

buy felpro gaskets from
ADVANCED AUTO
timing cover kit 9.99
oil pan 12.99
intake valley pan 15.99

GM head gaskets
ARP 12PT head bolts.... 60.00 TTA WILL BE DIFFERENT LENGTH-- JOHNS PERFORMANCE SELLS THE CORRECT KIT

then go to napa and get-
roller cam button 9.99
oil pickup tube 11.00
204/214 cam 140.00
SBC valve springs 20.00
sbc lifters 50.00??

or buy the last 3 from comp and get the
212/212 with 112 lobe seperation, gets good vacuum at idle- 240.00 with the timing chain

have your machine shop match jegs or summit's price on JE pistons, or what ever pistons you can afford-

those are the parts ive been using and have great success so far- NO LEAKS AND NO PROBLEMS
HTH

The engine was rebuilt not to long ago. Started to hear a bad rod knock and it leaks all over the place. Can't stand it any more so It's gotta come out and see whats really going on. May just need new bearings and gaskets.

4.1L
GN1 aluminum heads
218/218 cam
62mm TB and dog house
70 Turbo
50lbs inj
THDP and Headers

your gonna need larger injectors unless you have a 7th orifice or 7th injector or alot of alky-

4.1 with a 70 will make the MSD 50s go static real quick-

i would get some 83's and get a good chip

Yes, I was thinking about upgrading the injectors. Draging my feet cause both my cars have 50 pounders and have a bunch of chips. I have a low ohm computer so I'll go with something in the 70s or 80s.
