Gears running close, or is it Time for a New Tranny? NEED HELP

My transmission in my car on the freeway sounds like the gears are running really close, and that the overdrive doesnt engage, and Its a real slouch getting up to speed on the freeway. I was told that I might have to replace the tranny filter, or that the transmission needs to be replaced. I have no problems on the roads going 45mph, but when you accelerate from 45+mph, the car is slow and sounds like its running really hard and the engine wants to blow up the faster you go. At 65mph the car runs kinda hard and still doesnt want to keep up with traffic. I think it has a 200-r4 in it, but due to the age of the car and the condition and abuse the car has taken when I bought it I dont know.

You may have a sticky valve(s). Does the car have lock-up? Could be TCC soloniod. Also not sure what you mean by "gears are running really close", do you mean that it doesnt appear to be shifting in every gear?

Yeah... it sounds like it goes through 2nd gear in a split second, or its not shifting right.

Could be a TV cable adjustment, or the trans is on its way out. Does the fluid smell burnt? Do you have a temp gauge?
