Getting into gear troubles

Hey all, I have a little problem on my hands. I have a console shift and when i move it to get it into OD, it stops right before it. I can shift into R and N but it wont go any more than that. I can get it past it but its almost like I have to get a running start. I have to go back into Park and then pull back hard, then I wind up in 1, then I can get it up into OD. I'm thinking something like this can only get worse. I took off the console plate and looked around in there and there isnt anything blocking the slot. I'm pretty confused. Any help would be much appreciated.

Look underneath the car where the shifter cable is held on the transmission. There is a sheet metal bracket bolted to the transmission oil pan that supports the cable.

Make sure that the clip that retains the cable to this bracket is present and secure. Also, inspect the cable housing itself to see if it has broken.
