i would not use armor-all because it acutally dries out rubber, plastic, and vinyl. use something that is nat a silcone base like wizards

I dont understand this? How does armor-all or any other silicone based product dry out rubber? I'm not saying your wrong It's just with my experience these products have always helped restore old rubber and keep new rubber new and flexible.

All i know is that when i went to trim and uppolstry school we were told that the silcone base dries ot the rubber. Something like it draws out the natural oils in the plastic, rubber or vinyl. Also it is a pain in the butt to clean off a painted surface if you ever plan to repaint the car.

Most plastics have something called a plasticizer added to them. This adjusts the plastics properties to fit the application. They can soften them, make them flexible, makes them rebound, etc. As the plasticizers are lost (UV breakdown, evaporation, ageing, etc.) the plastic becomes more brittle and may itsself breakdown.

The Armor-all displaces (replaces) the plasticziers. For a short time the rubber looks and feels softer, but the armor-all doesn't last long. It speeds up to loss of the plasticizers, which cuases the problems.

Side Note: ABS plastics have a plasticizer which evaporates. It will condense on your windshield and cause fogging (kinda like cigarette smoke) making it hard to see at night. (After the motor oil lab, I worked in a polymer plant making plasticizers :) )
