GM 7.5 Q's

Hey folks im in the process of upgradeing my 7.5,and was wondering if this will work,first off a 8.5 is out of the question, only because i cant afford one, i have a 28 spline carrier from a s-10 and a friend just gave me a set of stock 8.5 28 spline axles from his g/n this morning,(other than makeing the 7.5 c-clips fit) will this work? is there going to be a bearing or oil seal problem? THANKS

I'd suggest not wasting your time and money on a 7.5 unless you have a turbo buick that isn't making any more power than stock 86/87. Yeah, it may cost a little more up front to get an 8.5, but by the time you break a couple 7.5's you could have gotten a good rear end and not had to hassle with breaking rear ends and repairing them in addition to having an undriveable car while it's broken.

the Camaro guys are making the 7.5 live under some pretty serious power behind their LS1's and 6 speeds- but i think they have to pretty much upgrade everything to make it live, which would be more than just getting an 8.5 and about the same as getting a bolt in 9".
but i've also seen bone stock 7.5's take a lot of abuse in everything from V8 4 speed Monzas to early 80's Malibus.

He's just trying to let you know that you're gonna have to dump just as much money in that 7.5 to make it live, as you would if you just bought a good used already built 8.5....

Trying to save you money and headache man... do it right the first time, I learned that long, long ago...

like they said- do you want to spend $1000 once to get and build a good 8.5, or would you rather spend $700 two or even three times to figure out how to make that 7.5 live with abuse?

For every bad story theres a good one,what it costs me to replace my crap 7.5 is a drop in the bucket this one is going to cost me a fat 30 bucks+130 for a cover,and it will last,even if its for the summer or two untill i can actually afford to crap 1000 bucks thats my choice NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!

With a response like that maybe you should just leave.

There is a lot of guys on here that have been where you are now and are trying to save to TIME (doing a job two or three times) and MONEY ( the money you will spend redoing the work) Instead of doing it right the first time around.These cars will take a lot of abuse but not if you go about it HALF ASS

With a response like what you just gave I say figure it out yourself.

You come on here asking for help and some people tryed to give you some friendly advice and you become a DICK about it.What you should have done was say Thank you I will keep that in mind but for right now I need help with my 7.5 BUT no..... Nothing wrong with a 7.5 if you not making power. There is an 83 Cutlass that was making 550 on spray through a 7.5. Although it was very iffy we just knew it would break anyday. He decide that enough was enough and upgraded to a Fabnine. He sold the 7.5 still intack after years of abuse. HTH

Are the 8.5 axles the same diameter as the 7.5 axles where the bearings and seals are going to make contact. Also are the axles the same length. I would think if every thing will fit in the 7.5 housing it should work. How tight is the S 10 carrier, if it's worn it won't last long. I ran a 7.5 in my 83 Grand Prix. Broke one limited slip (cone type) because it was worn out. Found another that was low mileage cone type and didn't have any problems with it. Ran 13.5 with a 400 and then with a 455 that ran 12.9 at 105 for awhile before I sold the body.

yea i mic'ed the bearing/oil seal exactly the same, all g-body axles are the same and the posi is tight,it sounds like a no brainer but i like to get insight just to be safe,the only thing is i have to open the c-clips for the 8.5 axles .050

You have to open the C-clips up? I would not trust that for one Min.Just buy some C-clip elimantors.
