Has anybody used one of these? I'm thinking this over a 4l80e

The 4r70w version of this hybrid is a much better transmission all around.I have several customers going low 9s with them with an automatic shift valve body. The AOD version is very primitive in comparison to the 4r70w.It is a very easy conversion for a G Body car.

How would you compare these to the 4l80e in durability and price for a low 9sec car?

The 4l80e is much stronger than the 4r70w but takes more power to drive,it has been documented that it takes 22 more horsepower to run the 4l80e in high gear @ 6500 rpms than the 4r70w.My BASE 4L80E package is good for 1000 hp and 750 lbs.ft.Standard with billet input shaft and direct drum stabilizer. My base 4r70w package is good for 650 horsepower 550 lbsft. There are better versions but more cost is involved.Id rather see the 4l80e in use at this point but the 4r70w is being researched thoroughly and some really nice stuff is on the way for it in the future,Lord willing.

Do you think a 200r4 can be made to live behind a 1200hp S2? I plan on getting rid of my 400th this winter. I'm just trying to weigh the options that are out there and prices.

If anyone can do it, it would be Chris. I think he's got a few running in the 9's right now if I remember right Tom.

Chris, can the 4R70W be built to shift itself without the electronics? (TV cable system added or valve body changed/re-engineered for example)?

The 4R70W can't be made to auto shift without the electronics.

However the best part about it is using the electronics to shift it. It is one reason it is leaps and bounds ahead of the AOD. Also because it uses a 1 piece input shaft and a more conventional lockup converter it is much stronger in stock form.

The controllers aren't terribly expensive, you save enough using the 4R70W core because you don't have to go get a bunch of core parts from a 4R70W to upgrade the AOD.
This helps offset the cost of the controller.

I use a relatively inexpensive controller on the Ford and GM transmissions that works great.

Phil you can build a aod w/ a tv cable for a gn but not the 4r70w.I am playing around with a reverse pattern full manual valve body for them. The trans does have tremendous potential.I am so buried in 2004rs and 4l80s that I dont have r and d time now to go further with it.I was building the aod conversion 10 plus years ago when jw came out with the bellhousing.
