Think twice before buying a Chevy truck I am finding out. I bought a new Z71 Silverado in 2004 with an additional 6yr/100k mile warranty. The truck just turned 76k miles. Every since I bought the truck I have had trouble with the speedometer needle randomly ticking. After twice having service techs look at it back in 2004 they just said to monitor it since it seemd inconsequential to them. Well, there is a recent service bulletin about problems with these 2003 and 2004 dash clusters regarding the speedometers breaking. I found this out because a month ago my speedometer let loose and is now usually pinned at 120mph even when parked. The problem is....GM now says it's MY problem to fix because they will only fix it if the truck has under 70k miles, regardless of the fact that the truck had been in for this problem from the beginning. All I can say is this, I am 41 and have owned many vehicles (some of which had over 200k miles on them) and I have never had a speedometer broken and this one has been basically since new. If GM won't take care of a known defective dash cluster from new....how will they handle other more important aspects of there vehicles. I have been looking at new trucks for the past 2 months or so. This seals my decision.....it is getting traded in with the broken since new speedometer on a Tundra and I am recommending steering clear of GM.
