After being rear-ended for the 4th time in 18 months, I picked up my freshly repaired Cadillac at a local body shop. I brought the GN. The guy jokingly said "you wanna buy another one? I have one out back".

When I asked him some more about it, it turns out someone brought it in 3 years ago to be repainted and they haven't heard from him since. They think the owner might have died. The guy would like to get rid of the car but doesn't know how.

Anyone know of anyone who might have dropped their car off at a Kenvil, NJ body shop a few years ago?

Sounds like you should start carrying a neck brace around?

The State Police or DMV should have some forms he can submit, he basically puts a storage lean on the car and then the owners or estate either have to pay the storage or forfeit the car to the shop legally.

He might want to check the VIN number and make sure it not stolen.

Yeah. This last hit was a good one: $4,300 worth of damage. The last few were just scrapes to the cover, which were less expensive.

I'm going to go back to look at the car - I didn't get to see it yesterday. The body shop owner is a friend of a friend. Might be able to pick the car up cheap. The only problem might be the title. In PA once you go through the motions of taking an 'abandoned' car from a shop it gets a salvage title, not sure what it's like in NJ.

That sucks. Last time I saw something like that the car turned out to be stolen. The car was sitting in back of a GN shop and some guys tried to steal it bu never opened the hood. The shop was to put a new passenger side head gasket on the car and had the top end apart. The guys that dropped it off never came to pay for the work.
The thieves busted the collar and cranked the car...no start. They were pushing it away when the cops showed up and busted them. A VIN trace revealed that the car had been brought with a bad check.
The owner couldn't collect the insurance since it techincally wasn't stolen. But he had no other means of finding the car for over two years. He has it back now but I'm not sure if he got it back runnning.
