Anyone out there have any experience putting a GN engine and transmission in an older car? I have a 77 El Camino that I want to update to a Turbo Buick. Wiring up the engine and computer would be the biggest problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Do a search but a quick overview since this has been addressed a lot..... Being a G body essentially everything should bolt in. The '86=87 GN engine wiring harness I'm not sure if it will be compatable with the '77 chassis harness.

REd's hot air should be able to help you.

Go over to the "other board." There's a guy over there with the initials SW who can help you :)

Actually the '77 would be an "A" body and is much different than a '78 which is very similar to the Regals up to '87. A complete GN engine harness is needed as said, and may require changes to work with the Chevy harness.

Other issue would be the fuel system and lines.

Other early cars have had GN turbo transplants w/o lots of difficulty. Hard part is having/acquiring all the special brackets, accessories, etc.

Good luck.:)

There was one at Carlise last week, Crazy looking but cool. I have a pic on my phone, I will see if I can post it up

If you are going to put it into an older body style, then your best bet would be to spend the cash and buy a wiring harness from Casperselectronics.com. They have one for adding a Turbo Regal to anything. I think all you have to do is connect to power, ground, and the fuel pump. The rest of your cars harness remains untouched. You will have to do something about baffling the gas tank, and running the fuel lines. You will have to do something about the tranny crossmember if you want to run the 2004R tranny. Other than that, it shouldn't be too hard.

Bubba Nicholson (a.k.a. turbo87limited on this board) has a beautiful Elky with GN drivetrain and interior. You might PM him to "pick his brain".
