My '00 Monte Carlo SS ran a 15.5 with a Borla cbe and K&N 9" cone intake. The sad part is the magazines tested it at 16.6... Talk about a slow bastard.

haha

I use to manage an autoparts store when I was in college (back in '80-'82) and my brother worked in a machine shop. He took a REAL flat sbc cam (remember how they ALL went flat back then?) and cut 1/4 off of it. I had it in my store under the counter. Three guys came in to the store one day (and it was a bit slow) and they were asking about hot rod parts for their Chevy. They wanted a 3/4 cam. I pulled the "3/4 cam" out from under the counter, and showed it to them. The leader of the pack, looked very closely at it and stated "WOW!!!! look at those RADICAL lobes!!!" The other two guys were admiring their buddies VAST knowlege of race car parts. Then I pulled the other 1/4 out form under the bench, and said "Now if you REALLY want to make BIG power, you put the other 1/4 in your engine!" The two "on-lookers" started ROARING and slapping thier buddies head. Priceless.

I was going to post pictures of my "Twin Turbo-GNX-FBI, high speed persuit car on that website, but figured I would have to answer too many questions. It is a REAL GNX with twin turbos that was offered only to the FBI. I painted it blue/green, so it doesn't get stolen. ;)

You laugh all you want but if I had a penny for everytime I heard that comment at car shows, parking lots, etc. when I had my first black TR I would be rich right now. It is amazing at the stories and myths people will come up with. That is one of the things I do not like about these cars is the odd people that are compelled to tell you stories about them.

t-typex1 the hell with the slow stang im tire of hearing the chevy and mustang guy talking their s**t those cars can blow me. TO ME BUICK MUSCLE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO DRIVING WITH CLASS

LOL, is that a 5.0 parked next to your buick in your avatar???LMAO:D

YES IT IS BUT NOT MINE A CLOSE BUDDY OF MINE ,IT'S A 1993 COBRA WITH
21,000 MILES ON IT I RACE HIM AT GREAT LAKE DRAG WAY AND YES YOU NO
THE OUTCOME OF THAT RACE . HE RAN 14.70s WHILE I WAS IN THE 13s. he also has a 2000 viper:eek:

very sad the the king so called cobra gets a beat down from a small little
231 v6 sad it is:biggrin:

I couldn't read it all, it gets old but didn't he recommend swapping motors with an LT1 and is talking about value and power??

What are these cars worth vs Monte's, LT1's etc, it doesn't take long to look it up on Kelley Blue Book and learn some facts??

its idiots like that, that make me embarrased to own a chevy. i ran a 15.3 with a basically bone stock 305 thats well used and that clown only managed a 14.6 ? lol with that said i may own a chevy but i never want to be grouped in as a chevy guy!

Yeah I read that and couldn't believe it. SBC is the easiest engine to build up on the planet. I ran 105 mph (13.62 with a 2.1 60 foot) in my thirdgen firebird with a 305, ported factory H.O. heads, 214/224 cam. Anyone with a 350 oughta be in the 13s easy with the amount of mods he has.

I'm consistently amazed how slow people can make SBC's. It's almost harder to do than to make one fast.

I read this thread this morning before I went to work, and even popped over to the Motown site to see what the fuss was about. It made me want to drive the GN today, but it’s a lot of hassle to take it, plus insurance limitations, etc. But, I got in the Caddy and it had no gas. So I took the GN to work.

I thought a lot about the things that the MCSS guy on the Motown board said. While he was way off on his performance figures, and he could’ve made his points a little more diplomatically, he made a good point about there being cheaper, easier ways to go faster these days. I bought my GN 10 years ago when it arguably still was the bang-for-the-buck king and it has proven to be a great platform for a street/strip car. But, did I buy my GN because I longed for one in High School? Not consciously, but probably yes. Do I care? No. People love the car – young and old. When sitting at a light I always feel like I’m being stared at – because I am being stared at. This morning a girl in the passenger seat a new Carrera Cabriolet couldn’t take her eyes off the car (I’d like to think she was looking at me, but with the tint she couldn’t see me anyway). She was saying something to the driver, maybe it was ‘Can you believe some people still drive a 20-year-old POS?”, but I like to think not.

Anyway, here’s the punch line. I get to work, park in the garage and share the elevator ride up with some lady. She’s gushing about the car, how her uncle has one and it’s his pride and joy, keeps it CLEAN, etc. Then she said it, and I knew it was coming but it’s always disappointing…”yep, he loves his Monte Carlo SS”. I just told her that it was actually a Buick but they’re visually identical (for all intents and purposes, to the layman, they really are identical).

Oh well, I still love it even though I often feel doing it with the V6 is doing it the hard way.

I think that guy is notacarlo's daddy.

:D

Nope, my dad was introduced to GN's a couple of years ago when I picked this one up. He was always a Chevy big block kinda guy. He was genuinely not interested in taking a ride in the GN. I wiped that smug look off his face at 5 psi. 10 psi he was looking for the door handles, 20 psi he told me I needed to slow down.

If that dude was my daddy, I would have given him my pimp hand and thanked him for his time.

I think it was vortechWS6 trying to stir up some doo doo on a Motown Mustang board. Your uppence will come....

Wow that idiot stuck his hole leg in this mouth i like how he tried to back pedal later in the post what a tool

wasting money no power

I waste lots of money on my GN, and I have no power...because GAS is too !@#$ing expensive!!!

Now the fuel feed line in front of the engine spouted a leak at the bend in the hose.... I'm wasting money on penny annie $hit, and still now power....

I'd never say these cars are overrated though, but they make their owners obsessive..... :D

Best day i had was (other than when the kids were born) when i baught mine after wanting one for so long and mine did not run when i got it (thanks to the wife for talking me in to it) as far as being they never were or ever will be overrated i dont care if i have to rebuild the whole car from scratch its mine and it aint no Monte GM got this one right back then some one should school this kid and his dumb friend who with alky and a bigger turbo ran almost stock times:eek: Im politically incorrect too my 86 has an 87 grill:biggrin:

Man I hate to report this but there is a sloooooooow 87 GN in Jacksonville, Florida. A couple of years ago I went to look at it for a friend who wanted to buy it and the idiot who owned it went on and on and on about all money he spent. The car looked great but he had this huge turbo (I'm thinking 8-9 sec car here) and 2" headers into a 3" single exhaust on a stock motor. The thing wouldn't spin the turbo and build any boost over 14# and was slooooow. My then 13 year old son who went on the test ride says from the back seat "what's wrong with this thing dad"? He's had many blasts in my low 11 sec white T. But this GN was way slooooower than my bone stock silver 87 T with the plastic grate still in the intercooler intake and the stock air cleaner still in place. I don't know what ever happened to that GN.

There is no such thing as a slow GN. Only slow owners.

actually they were very calm over there. Hell someone over here says he has an Evo that goes good would end up with a 20 page "beating" :p Hey ya can make anything go with enuff $$$ ... hmmm ..thinking here... I guess I have to take that back.. I have watched lots of different BIG $$$$ cars run in the 13s BUT on the "net" they ran 10's   ahhh winter is almost over for some .. I just went up to our summer place in NH and Melissa's car is still "stranded " up there with 3/4 FEET of snow still on the ground !!! Plus they might get more this weekend !!
