No thanks, I had a white T/A before an it was seemed to always have black rubber smudges behind the rear wheels. ;)

Keeps the rust away.

My limited draws very little attention until they hear the turbo flutter. When I drive or trailer the GN all the rubberneckers come out.

not to get off the subject, but to get the most "perfect" shine on black apply wax/polish with an slow speed orbital buffer...this works in polish EVENLLY and gets rid of swirls,webbing,etc....let wax dry before wipping off by hand.waxing does its thing when you put it on,not taking it off.just my experience....

To add insult to injury I hadn't even cleaned the car up. It was dirty and there was grass and crap all over the floor mats. There's hardly any paint left on the lower 1/4s from driving on drag radials 24x7, too. What I got was the "Sponsor's Choice" trophy. The sponsor (the owner, manager or whomever they deem appropriate of the McDonald's) picks his favorite car of the night. I saw him and another employee checking the car out. I'm flattered that they picked it, but it's by no means a 'people's choice' award.

The cars were parked side-by-side and people were drawn to both. They spent a lot of time going back and forth between the engine bays. A couple of people asked me why I took the intercooler out (I have a FMIC). They thought the thing behind the grille was a radiator.

I think the GN just has a little more 'bling' than the Regal. Mikes car came out very nice but is also very stock in appearance. It has my GN rims on it, but otherwise looks bone stock. The GN, even in stock form, looks customized with the black bumpers, little spoiler on the decklid and the two-toned interior. Also, I had the tops out on the GN, it has polished Draglites, wide tires in the back and is tinted all around. People like to check out the interior of the GN, too because of the black/gray color scheme and all of the junk (gauges, switches, etc.) I have inside it. The GN has that huge FMIC piping and the 4" inlet on the turbo. I think there's just more to look at, that's all. It's not a bad thing, it's just the way it is. The crowd that attends these cruises doesn't have an appreciation for a nice, rare stock-appearing car.

It's the color not the car.
My 69-442 will get little attention, the GN will draw a crowd.

NICE RIDE MAN!! I would check your car out for sure, very cool.

I have a yellow Stage 1 4 speed GSX... considered to be a pretty rare car... and a 87 WE4, which is as you know, an all blacked-out Regal. At weekly cruise nights, I alternate as to which car I bring and the WE4 always seems to attract more interest. Maybe because it is so very different from the scores of 60's-70's musclecars that all are pretty similar.

Personally, I bought the WE4 new and chose it over a GN because at the time, those V6 logos in the seats looked like Jiffy Lube logos. The WE4 looked like a GN with a much nicer interior. How times change... now I have floor mats and all kinds of additions with that Jiffy Lube logo on them!

Bottom line is who cares about what others think of you car. What is important is how you feel. Knowledgeable people in the know, appreciate all Turbo Regals. Paul

That car is pimp, man! Seriously, that's a sharp T. Nothing to be ashamed of there.

Here's some more. This is why Mike gets upset when he doesn't get any attention - he has a lot of work and money into that thing:

Jim

that looks great dude

Same thing here in KC, lots of GN's and alot more colorful turbo regals showing up weekly.
At the car shows it seems the GNs get alot of attention, but at our local shows, its 3 colored cars to 1 GN

GNs are great, look real good when clean, but try driving a black car in the rain or get caught in a spring shower...
:Watch the owner run to the carwash:

Like the interior there turbojimmy, nice and comfy!

The reason why the GNs are more popular is because of the production numbers.
Way back in ‘87/’88 at the local street races I never saw a t-type or turbo regal the only Buicks that showed up whir the ‘60s, ‘70s, N/A regals and GNs.
At that time I had no idea that Buick made any other turbo car. It wasn’t until 1989 when I got a part-time job at a local auto parts store that I found out a bout the other Buick turbo cars.
And that was because one of the kids that worked with me in the auto parts store was a fanatic about the GNs and he had tons of Buick books and mags. And his friend owned a t-type and one day he came in to buy spark plugs and said to me he had an OE turbo engine in his regal so I ran out to the parking lot to look at it and then I looked at the eight digit on the VIN and proceeded to double check the number in spark plug book to my surprise the “7” = 3.8 sfi turbo that’s how I learned about the other Buick turbo cars. After that day I started to look into anything that had a #7 as the eight digit on the VIN number.
I am really not a big fan of the car but I am a fan of the drive train. And the value it holds.
I would rather have a super clean silver Monte SS t-top with the blue interior and the complete GN drive train. But because I put a lot of money into my cars I have to settle for the turbo regal only because it holds its value and ill loose less money or brake even in the event of a sale.
BTW I still regret selling my 1984 Monte t-top with a complete ‘87 GN drive train.

Thanks, but it's my brother Mike's car (the original poster on this thread). I just host the pics on my site. He took a gamble on that '86 Limited and it worked out. There was lots of good stuff on it.

I liked the Monte Carlos - our family learned to drive on several late-70s examples. I was just never a fan of the SS. My favorite G-body appearance-wise in the mid-80s was the Cutlass, particularly the 442 and the Hurst. Particularly when they moved to the one-piece headlights (versus the 4 sealed beams). Either of those cars with a 3.8L turbo drivetrain would be a winner in my book. I know it's been done and I really like the results.

Thanks, I'm definitley not ashamed. I guess I was just a little disspapointed. I guess what's really great about the Turbo T is that as rare as they are now, they will be even more unique as they get older.

I am with you 100%
I have an '87 turbo regal its blue on light blue interior.
I just wish it looked as good as yours

That's because Turbo Regals are Regals... Grand Nationals are Grand Nationals. That's why Grand Nationals are generally worth more money. Image.

In the public eye, that's like comparing a rare optioned 68 Mercury Cougar XR7-GT with a 390 to a Mustang Fastback GT. Majority will flock to the Mustang.

Eye candy, popularity, fact of life. Only the true enthusiast will appreciate the ugly stepchild.

I always liked not getting attention.

Especially when at the track, you show up and no one even looks as the car. After you make one pass deep in the 11's and people figure out you drove it there you get all kinds of questions. :D

I get plenty attention in my t-type! Especially if I pull in on a gas station someone always says a comment or asks me a question. Makes me feel good knowing I got something nice myself :)
