Apparently my department's NET (narcotic enforcement team) had at least two. I was getting my regular patrol car serviced yesterday and started talking to the garage guys. They said we had a red and black one. They said the black one was definitely faster! Don't ask me why that was.

Dean, they are obviously mistaken. You as a cop must be able to confirm that red cars are faster than black ones.......

:-)

Here are 4 more pictures. Sorry about the quality, I scanned these from real photos. Notice the number written on the rear cover. I have never looked but I think this was the only GNX with a hand written number on the cover. Also there is a neat decal on the windshield. This was at the GSCA nationals in 2000? I think? Mileage was at around 3500 miles.

I have always heard rumors that the FBI or CIA bought a few GNX's as pursuit cars. Is there any truth to that rumor?

A guy I worked with was an auto body tech in Detroit in the mid 80's. He claimed he did some work on GNX's for the FBI and still had some of the original badging from the cars in his attic somewhere. I said something about them probably being GN's, and he said no, GNX.

I seriously doubt the FBI would drop the change needed to buy a GNx only for it's agents to destroy it. The cars were supposed to "blend in" a bit with normal traffic. The GNx certainly didn't do that.

CT state troopers drove '87 Turbo Regals (Turbo T) from what I saw back in the day.

I'll take your word for it, makes more sense anyways. I'm not a CT Native, but a State Trooper once told me that "We used to drive these" in reference to my GN. I just assumed he meant GN's, not T-Types.

I've been a cop for 15 years and have to say that a GN or Turbo T would make a very poor patrol car. Handles very poorly, poor brakes and impractical back seat. Sure, it accelerates like a bullet and has a large trunk but it'll kill you going 100+ mph.

This makes a much better traffic/pursuit vehicle:

Ill take a 1973 AMC Javelin with 401 interceptor stuff. The state patrol used them here in Ala, and even after all these years, all the middle aged hot rodders who encountered them admit defeat. Ew, he said AMC.

And the Camaro has a practical back seat? :)
And the Impala on the other hand, had a big back seat, but failed on all other accounts mentioned, especially handling....so get the guys in the Trs and Camaros to run down the bad guys and call the guys in the Impala to come pick them up off the curb :)

When I was in the ARMY and stationed in Hawaii the cops used T-types, Monte SS and a few Grands.

that was in 1988-1991 don't know what they use now.

No, the Camaro's back is useless too but comparing both the Camaro at least has a few positives in it's corner.

Here's a pic of one of those Hawiian cop cars:

All I saw when I was over there in the spring was motorcycle cops....even in the rain. Most of the time the H1 is a parking lot anyway so I guess that's the only way you can get around quickly is on a motorcycle.

With laws that let police confiscate drug dealer's cars, anything can become a police car.

The CT trooper cars were purchase to be used as police cars. They had a herd of them.

You silly billys, the TR's were assigned only to MIB (men in black) to handle UFO/paranormal cases. Them flyin saucers is hard to catch without a turbo.
