There is a set of GNX rims for sale on Ebay that I am thinking about for my 86. Any ideas as to how high the price will go? They should fit on a 86 GN right? Anybody know anything about these rims?

If they are the real deal they can go for some big bucks. I'd say atleast $1500 -$2000, if not more  Just a guesstimate;)

Link the Ebay auction. People advertise GNX wheels all the time on ebay and they're never real GNX wheels. They are simply GTA wheels or other look alikes. Maybe they don't know any better and think the GTA wheels are exactly the same as the GNX wheels. You know...the same people who think a TR is a Monte Carlo SS.

In other words, I highly doubt that there's a set of real GNX wheels for sale on ebay.

Here is the link and also a message that I sent and rcvd from seller.

Consider the likelyhood that someone is gonna part out a GNX and then sell the whells at $600 (the current bid) and then ask yourself if you really think those are GNX rims. It's okay, though. Buick borrowed the GTA rims from Pontiac to put on the GNX (and paid them back an hundredfold by giving them about 1500 leftover GN engines in '89 ;) ) . The only change they made is, they painted 'em black, put different centercap logos on and used FOUR FRONTS due to the different spacing. I can't get a good enough look at those, but they are probably two fronts and two backs. The fronts have a deeper 'dish' to them and so look much better on the back of a GN. Put the fronts on the back and the backs on the front of your car. (Either that or wait around 'till you can score four fronts, which would be expensive and more of a PITA.) Just don't forget that you will need to put spacers on the front wheels (the backs that you put on the front) or they will grind. Most agree that 9/16" is sufficient. Everybody has their own opinion, but some think it is safer to have longer lugs put in up front to accomodate the spacers. I have yet to do that myself, but plan on it in the not-so-distant-future.

I have them and love them, they completely transform the look of your car.....for the meaner!

Are you speaking about real GNX rims?

There were actually not GTA Rims at all. The GNX rims were custom made by a company named 'JWC'. The GNX Rims lacked the 'Dimple' near the trim ring that the GTA's have. In addition the GTA rims don't come close to the offset of the GNX rims. GNX rims have a 3 9/16 in the rear, and a 3 15/16 in the front. Real GNX's provide a much wider footprint than the stock Grand National or GTA Rims. In addition the space between the outside lip of the rim, and the honey comb surface for GTA rims dosen't come close to GNX rims.

As for Prices on real GNX rims....I heard that of the few sets sold people were getting $4000-$5000 per-set.

...I've always heard that the 'dimple' was a good thing to get?

This is incorrect as TurboRegal84 pointed out. Real GNX wheels have different offsets/backspacing than the GTA wheels.

You can however get GTA wheels without the dimples. If I'm not mistaken, pre-1988 GTA/Trans Am wheels of this style did not have the dimples.

FWIW & IMHO:
I, just like everybody else, do not believe that those rims are real GNX rims. Regardless, I would ask for some closer pictures showing more detail before I bid any money on those.
Also, the picture of the main rim shown in the e-bay ad looks somewhat bent in 2 places to me. 1, where the wheel balance weight is, and 2, about 180 degrees around from there. Maybe the pictures?

If you are looking for a set of replacement GNX style rims, check out Brian Weaver's site at gbodyparts.com. I know he is starting to carry the repro GNX wheels. Plus, he is well known, unlike the guy with the wheels on ebay.
