I will be trying to relocate the throttle body to after the turbo to help throttle response possibly.

I have a HA motor I'm mocking stuff up on at the moment, and I will hopefully be going with a 3.5 Lt1 maf with translator as well.

Will post pics later, when I get some of the parts in that I need.

Cool84 if you read this...... can you tell me how you supported the tb on your setup?

Did you just allow your pipe take the weight of the tb?

Thanks,

Jerry jr.

In the midst of this my self. Are you relocating your turbo to the stock 86/87 location?

Nope...

I have the spearco intercooler adapter in the intake with a 2.25" hose coming out. Gonna have a small section of pipe (where my alky is injected), and then the tb will be at the other side of the pipe. Have not yet found out how to mount the tb to make the cables function.

I will probably try to take the car to the track before I make this modification to get a new baseline with my new heads and cam combination.

I think I may have a simpler solution for you Jerry. I've got an intake you can borrow to see about mocking stuff up, and it's not a factory HA intake. I think you might like the idea.

I have FWD intake if thats what you are talking bout

I've worked on a fwd intake for a while trying to make the HA turbo bracket fit up to no avail. Not opposed to the idea, but it wouldn't be really easy. I also don't know about hood clearance issues. I just learned my tps was rubbing the hood liner as it is. The tps points forward on the fwd intake but the sensor is wired backwards compared to the HA so I would have to repin the plug.

If this isnt the intake you're talking about post up some pics, spill the beans.

Dunno know if Im off yet

I wouldn't worry about it, like I said it will be a while before I get this project going because I want to run the car like it is before I put this type of mod on it. I would like to determine all the upsides / downsides of this type of mod. I think it improves throttle response, but does it hinder performance? That is the stuff I want to know.

I said before that "we have the same parts:cool:" I got parts to move the TB off the turbo. I talked with "COOL84" years ago and I ended up with the conversion in the pictures. I bought a spearco unit from a AZ member off the board, Turbojack. He fabbed a adapter from a old header collector. I have better pictures I will find tonight. As I stated I have been collecting parts and I also have a modded 86 intake and intercooler. There are many ways to do this. I like the modded 86 intake due to the fact the turbo is STILL in the position. The oil line is still in the same position (drill hole and push in grommet). Hope this helps... Will post more pictures

Based on your setup, the better setup might include the 86 intake. Less piping and this moves the TB to the front. I got better pictures some where!

I'm not a hundred percent tied down yet...

On the 87 intake, do the fuel lines workout pretty good? Does the turbo bracket go on with little to no mods? I have a braided stainless oil feed line so that is not a problem. Biggest thing is that pesky plenum is right in the freaking way of my pipe coming out of the turbo. I would say if you had the setup where the turbo is turned down and then ran through the pipe around to the front the 90 degree bend at the back of the intake would probably hinder airflow? I agree that the 86 / 87 intake would be better, but the intercooler pipe going over the plenum / tb would probably give hood clearance issues badly. I guess I could utilize a 45 degree silicone coupler of some sort to get the pipe off to one side or the other (preferably away from the up-pipe) enroute to the intercooler.

Like I said, not completely thought out yet, and not really ready to go through with it. The curremt intake gaskets have been on for about 3 months. Havent even had time to leak yet.

By the way, thanks for the pics, very informative.

The only major mods for the 87 intake is drilling the hole for the oil line at the back of the intake. No real issues with the fuel lines. The turbo backet fits without much issues. As far as flow, there are no know issues. Using just the intake improves flow from the turbo and it allows TB to be used without a intercooler. May not be a traditional HA but I am sure it could out flow a HA setup. Jeff Scott did this with his Turbomotion set up. His prototype ran without an intercooler. The late Bruce ran his 600hp GN with the intercooler off in HA mode. He mounted a U pipe from the turbo to the TB. He noticed faster spool without the intercooler. He later sprayed alky to sub for the intercooler. Search under BRUCE and read on this. 6togo (Mark) has helped me alot with this conversion. He has one with a modded Accufab upper. He also has the Mease style 3 inch downpipe and the 87 turbo.
