Certificate of Compliance

When I left Florida ('96) there were over 19,000 certified, trained ready to go UNEMPLOYED FF's in the state. Living in Tallahassee I applied all over the state and after one test in Tarpon Springs where sitting in a room that had over 400 testing candidates for 2 positions I told myself there has got to be a better way on top of being #2 on Tallahassee's list for over 12 months So I began applying across the COUNTRY and got picked up by a dept, oddly enough, two towns over from where I grew up. I had to begin a more aggressive pursuit after watching the females, the mayor's nephew and the insiders getting hired when they where well below me on the list. It is highly competative in Florida so know that going in. It is a wonderful experience and there is no better job...............period. In this buisness you have two ears and one mouth so listen twice as much as you talk. Good luck. Drew

then.......................

After putting myself through the academy and EMT school I had the pleasure of going through Masssachusetts academy and emt school all over again because Florida and Massachusetts have no reciprocity. No one and I mean no one would follow through with this if they knew they had to do this stuff twice. Can you imagine!!!!!!!!!Unbelievable:rolleyes: The saving grace was second time around I was being paid. Drew

Best of luck from FDNY . Me !:p Start working out if you havent . I didnt work out before the fire academy from 5 years as a cop sitting or standing around . I made it but being in shape is a huge plus . Im ok now after 5yrs + of working out, im fairly jacked , i just hate cardio still and only do weights but its still better than being on the couch in the firehouse eating a crumbcake :rolleyes:hey also a shout out to my Brother firefighters out there on the board , thanks for the support coming to N.Y for Funerals and stuff .

Whoo Hoo, Hydrant B!tch in training. ;) Best of luck! Then you move to Hose B!tch, then another newbie comes along and your just a black helmet like me. Take care!

Put the wet stuff on the red stuff, and stay away from the Methyl-Ethyl-bad$h!t.

My brother did volunteer FD stuff to kill time back when he was waiting to get into the Marines (long time ago). I can't help but admire someone who would choose to get into a dangerous line of work to help others, all of you above who have done that--- my hat is off to you in sincere respect!!

(Oh yeah, and congratulations, too!:D )

Good Luck Bro.. I have the utmost respect for you!

I hope your a minority. I tested a few times...my worse test was at 95% I think....it was about ten years ago. I found out that in my area they had hired others that had tested at 70to 75%....I spoke directly with him, not a rumor. I stopped after that, I decided thats not the kind of career I d want to be envolved in.

good luck, I m sure there are still good counties to be involved with.

I disagree, it was exactly the career you wanted to be involved with. It was the hiring process that has little equity. I know EXACTLY of what you are saying. Problem is the same type of inequity goes on daily in the private sector as well as the Fire Service. You are not alone in the disappointment people feel when looking to enter a Public Safety position. If anything is easy then everybody would do it. This job is not for everybody. Drew:)
