Not only is the original or previously owned purchase price of the 850 very prohibitive, so is the maintanance & upkeep. And I rarely see a 540, see a lot of M3's & 530's. An 850 is for the pompously rich famous. I would settle for an virtually showroom condition, virtually no miles '01 740i in a heartbeat. Goes to show you how really little I know about BMW's.

Wicked... good to hear that your okay. I myself got clipped deliberately by a guy in his raised F150. I chased that ****er and called in his plate and STILL the COPS did nothing. They could care less. It would be nice for once that they did their ****ing jobs.. hit and run is a felony per Cal 20002. So don't feel too bad that you didn't get the plate... In my instance..I did everything right and still got vaselined up the ass.
