On my 325-4L which is just like a 200-4R but looped around for a FWD (so you 200-4R guys should have some insight on this one) I am trying to raise my shift points, I put a set up lighter springs in the governor and it worked wonders for my 1-2 shift, It raised it up just to were I like it, 1-2 went from 4600 to 5000rpms with the spring swap, but my 2-3 only went from 4400 to 4500rpms:confused: I was expecting to raise my 2-3 to somewere around 5000rpms also becuase I need the extra engine speed to keep from catching 3 early and droping under my powerband. So heres what I assuming- I think that one of the springs on the governor has more of a effect on the 2-3 shift then the first to second, If im right(not sure)do you know which spring that might be? Or what can I do to get my 2-3 shift to match my 1-2 or at least be within 200rpms apart?

Raising RPM

On the 200 4R shift rpm is raised by reducing the weight of the lighter weight. Also, there is no spring on the heavy weight.

Search the site there are illustrations/pictures of the governor and a lot of chat about changing the shift points.

You could just buy a used GN governor from http://www.2004rperformancecenter.com/ but might want to talk to him first.

Oh my 325 has two springs and two weights! Man I guess I will have to do some testing to fugure this one out unless someone in here has any experiance with the 325,s governor. I thought the 200 has almost the same as my 325 Oh well

TRs have 2 weights but only have one spring on the small, inner weight. Maybe for free you could try removing the one on the big weight and see if it makes a difference. That is if you don't mind another red bath.

You know that sounds like a really good idea:) Thanks. The best part is on my 325-4L is FWD so I can take the governor out from reaching way down inside my hood and no fluid comes out so its a fast switch for me just to 10mm, removing the speedo gears and sliding the governor out. But thats a good idea I will let you know how it goes

Yeah thats what I was thinking but after changing to a lighter set of springs I really only got a 1-2 change with very little to 2-3

Ok I found it to be true that the large weight is mostly for part throttle and the small one is for full throttle, I also found out that the small weight affects 1-2 and 2-3 in equal amounts. So I'm trying to figure out how I can raise the point of shift from 2-3 without effecting 1-2, Im talking full throttle of course. is there anything else I can do that would do that???????????????? Hey thanx guys for your help so far I found the info that all you provided was very accurate:)

My guess would be....

2-3 shift valve spring change, did you try and do a search on the board with "keywords" concerning this. That's how I came up with the above link.

Did you try drilling a couple .125 in. holes in the light wt. ? I`d start there & put the original gov. spring back in.

Jim
