I have been thinking about buying a new grill. I want something simple, have been using webers charcoal and gas forever. Either another weber or should I try something new? I don't do much grilling and don't need the ego grill that takes up half the porch for 5K either;) I am kinda partial to gas for the convenience factor. My main concern is ease of cleaning... I hate scrubbing a grill:mad: I am open to about any thing brand wise so...

TIA

You clean yours? When ours gets too bad I just set it on high, let it bake for 5-10 then we have a scruber thats has a water resivoir. Steams cleans it and it only takes about a minute to clean. I would go with a cheap propane one from home depot or lowes if you dont use it much.

Char Griller - Grills and Smokers

We bought one of these at the first of summer. I really like it. I think we got it at Lowe's. We have run about 4-5 tanks of propane though it(we grill three to four times a week). Cast iron grilling surface and an upper shelve that is good for corn and stuffed peppers and such. Less than $200.

This isn't practical, but it's cool ass hell for a car guy.

Also, I've started using mangrates, they seem to keep flairups down and they also become "seasoned" after several uses like a cast iron skillet

Traeger Pellet Grills - Taste the Difference!

Ask Adam or anyone who has seen these in action, they're hard to beat.

I have grilled on alot of different grills over the years, but the Traeger is by far the best! The initial cost is a little more than what you will find at Lowes or Home Depot, but the cooking experience is dramatically different. No flame ups, no inconsistent heat, no burning, no charring, and best of all the taste of using real wood (not charcoal) without the headache of cutting up pecan or hickory branches half the day.

If you have the coin get the Traeger, you will not regret spending the money!!!! As they say in the South, that SOB is one bad moterscooter!!!

Go to youtube and type in Traeger Grill, Hey Dusty I might have to start selling these things myself ;)

I didnt think they were to bad price wise. =/- $650 with a cover and a couple bags of pellets.

traeger works great if I have company over and have a couple to many beers and forget I am cooking LOL

The company my dad works for sells a lot of them. All you have to do is cook on it with anyone around and they sell themselves.

I was at a race a while back and a guy from Arkansas walks up with a couple buddies and tells them "See, I told you somebody was cooking on one of these" He could smell that certain smell from way across the pits. I'll never go back to a gas or charcoal grill.

I have a gas weber for the convienince but Dusty is right, if you want the best taste I have ever had it comes off of the Traeger:cool:Hands Down.

My dad has had a few and I get his hand me downs after a year or so!

THis is the one Ty has.

And +1 on cleaning. Just run it on High for 10 minutes it will all flake off.

If you want to come down here you'll find all kinds of smoker/grill combos Shane. I'm sure you've seen what I cook on from the fourth of July post. 2 grills and one smoker. I use misquite becase we have so much around here. If you need some you're welcome to come down and take it away bud.

Imo....

I have not tried them all but I keep coming back to my charcoal Webber.

I do not know of a gas grill that can properly cook a steak. When ya got some dry-aged US Prime ribeyes on, ya don't want to mess around, they need the massive heat that gas will not deliver and the air control thru the Webber enables severe heat but no flare-up. My Webber will turn out a rare steak that is so caramelized it almost looks like it was deep fat fried - NO GRAY MEAT!

Got to check out the video of the grill others mentioned - but wood pellets? Some of the pellets I have seen for wood heaters look like they might have been from particle board!!! Also, natural hardwood will impart some smoke flavor. Smoke is like a spice and not all spices are proper all the time - easy to add some chunks of wood to charcoal when smoke is desired.

Can ya turn that Traeger off?
...can turn off a charcoal Webber.
also, with a chimney, the charcoal is ready in ten minutes - even a gas grill needs 6+ minutes to warm up.

Last night I got my charcoals going by just holding a Bic lighter up to the corner of one briquette for about 60 seconds, setting it in the bottom of the chimney, and then filling the chimney. Just a glowing fraction of one Kingsford got the whole batch burning with no lighter fluid or anything else. I have tasted lighter fuel in food before - a common error in novice charcoal grillers

The traeger is electric so, yes it can be turned off. You can set the temp anywhere from 180-400 degrees. The 180 degree setting is basically a smoker setting.

The wood pellets are made of real wood, one of the pellet factories is about an hr from here. They do have an odd look to them because they are dried out to help them move through the auger in the bottom of the grill. The pellets are picked up from the bin by an auger and feed through a draft box into the burner. The speed of the auger and the heat of the element is what controls the temp.

These things sound better by the post...

How many pounds of pellets to you use during a normal bbq? Looks like they are about a $1 a pound...

Not very much at all:cool:

They don't use much. I'd say it's about the same price as charcoal per use. Even smoking tenderloin for 3hrs, it doesn't use more than a few pounds.

When we cook steaks, it probably uses more because you want to cook them around 400 degrees so it's running on high speed.

When we cooked all those steaks in BG it may have used 5lbs.
