Ok. problem:confused: This past weekend I picked up the Vacuum Brakes from Rob's House (HI85WH1) and installed that bad boy. Only thing is...I dont have that plastic grommet thingamajing that's in between the hose and vacuum canister. is that the check valve? Also, while I was cruiz'n at Rob's house, his friend...another Rob, came over with his Monte Carlo SS. While we were checkin out his fresh engine, I took notice of the vacuum line on his brakes. Inline of the vacuum line was this other thingamajing. Looks kinda like a filter. What is what in there? I've even asked the guys at Ron's what that was...they gave me a  face and told me to go see the guys at JN, which I never got around to getting to. Do any of you know what I'm talking about? By the way Rob...bugga fits like a glove...THANKS!!! again.

Oh yah, who else is going to Gordon Biersch Tonight? If you guys are going to the Nudie bar, I can't..Sorry. I'm making time for my girlfriend before she leave for Kauai this Friday. Unless you guys like go nudie bar on the weekend too...I'm all for it.:D Anyways...see you guys tonight.

By "vacuum can", do you mean the brake booster? If so, you can go to pretty much any auto parts store and get one. Don't ask them for it, as they will give you a look like this..... The check valve will usually be hanging on a peg hook, by other misc. parts. :) See you tonight!

Chris,

The check valve is either a white or black plastic elbow that is inserted directly into the grommet on the vacuum booster. Without it, the booster will be pressurized when you go into boost. (not a good thing) Of course, without it, theres no place to hook up your vacuum source to. Pick up a new one at Checker Auto in the "Help" section where they keep all of the little knick knacks that often break. Should be less than $4.

The other item you mentioned which looks like an inline fuel filter, is indeed a filter. You can also pick this up at Checker. Whenever you step on the brake pedal, the booster draws in outside air to the back side of the diaphragm, pushing the piston in the master cylinder forward. (vacuum on the front of the diaphragm and ambient pressure on the back gives you the power boost.) When you release the brakes, vacuum pulls the extra air into the engine. The filter traps any thing that might be in the air, including rot or rust from the inside of the booster. Its cheap insurance and most cars are running around on the one it came with from the factory.

Aloha,

Thanks guys

Thanks guys, that cleared up the smoke. see you guys tonight.
