H4 headlight conversion help?

Ok - now that I have my projection beam H-4 on the driving lamps, what are you guys running for brights?? (the sealed beam brights have to go now )

Can I use another set of H-4 lamps for the brights by only using 2 of the prongs? (Buick bright plug only has 2 prongs)

No you simply use high beam replacement H1 lamps from Hella, Cibie, etc. They accept a similar bulb in 80-130 watts or so.

Relays and upgraded wiring are a must.

The H1 bulb is very small and has 1 wire - is that what fits in hellas replacement lamp? My projector headlamps will only accept the H-4 style bulb. What would happen if I just plug into the two prongs with bright plug? - it fits the 2 side posts on the bulb.

H1 is a two prong H4 style.

H3 is the small one with one wire on it.

That H1 bulb doesnt look anything like the H4 housing in the picture??? The H7 looks close though.

Ah ok, didn't know you already had the housings. Hella makes H1 specific high beam lamps for small rectangular lamps like ours.

You need to make sure the two side prongs that you will be using on an H4 bulb are the hot and ground of the higher wattage lamp inside the dual H4 bulb.

Gotta go look that up, or you will need more adapter wiring...

You are in luck the high beam appears to be accross the two outer terminals from one online source.

I was wondering, do you guys think an hid conversion is feasible by getting the hid parts (bulbs & ballast) off of a wrecked luxury cars in a junkyard?

HID is the route which i prefer to go, but systems for our cars run like $400 and up. Maybe at the junkyard i can get them for under a $100.

Yes you can use just the 2 outside prongs for your high beam. trust me that is what I am running right now. I have a set of apc h-4 housings in my high beams. mine came with a small light socket in the side for an 1895 bulb. I candy coated some orange and tied them into my parklight/ turnsignal. when every i turn on my turn signal now the high beam housing flashes orange. not really that bright of a bulb so it blends in with the rest of them. looks kinda neat at night.

Also for the diamond cut housings try www.prostreetlighting.com they are based out of chula vista california and I got 2 sets of the diamond cut housings for $115 and that included shipping and bulbs. (4000k super whites). As for the HID upgrade they are already offered as a fully kit by sylvania. They run about $800.00

I converted my headlights to H4 type. Been three days already.

The headlights i used were made by toucan and were rated for 65 watts. It is made mostly of heavy plastic except for the glass front. It is a piece of art . It has clear glass, which shows off the crystall cut reflector and a smooth ping pong ball reflective dome in the middle. If you put blue bulbs in there they reflect during the day with the headlight light off making the lights look irridiscent from different angles.

These headlights were not exactly bolt on. You have to take the metal housings that your headlights sit in off and cut off the ears with a dremal tool so your new headlight go in properly.

The bulbs that were used are Hiper 80/85 watt bulb. Color temp is 4300k, which is approaching daylight temp. Damn they get so hot, if you put your hand in front of the beam you can feel the heat emminating from the light. But so far they have not done any damage to the headlight housing.

I used a h4 harness made by APC for a toyota with bad/unclear instructions made for the japan market. It was supposed to be for 4 headlights, but it seems there are only connectors for two. When i recieved it the first time i sent it back. They shipped me another one and its still the same scenerio. At this point i was already fed up and decided to use the harness, it was not as expensive as in other sites anywayz.

Right now the headlights are very bright. So bright in fact i put my 100Watt drop light in front of the beam and it still shined through white. I think i may be blinding drivers, so i will try aiming the lights toward the center and floor.

I did not connect my high beams. I was planning on getting another H4 bulbs at 50/55 watts for the center and connecting it directly to the stock plugs. Right now there is a high beam indicator on my instrument cluster that is shining blue now. I think this has to do with the high beams not being connected.

Right now when i pull on the high beam stalk, my headlights shut off. Im still trying to figure that one out.

those are the same ones I got from prostreetlighting.com but you can't order straight from toucan industries. If you go to your local parts house and buy a standard 3 prong headlight plug and some standard male spade connectors, crimp the connectors onto the wires and plug them into the stock harness clocking the location once counter-clockwise, you can run the h-4's with your stock sealed beams for highbeams. You will need to keep it that way when you add the h-4 highbeams. Also if you ever want to change back your harness isn't butchered. I am running them that way on mine and have had so many people asking how the hell I did it without having all 4 headlights on.

Well all I need are the conversion kits but not from Tucan. Because I have had them on my TY and I gave them away all I got was an awsome looking "pencil beam" going down the road. I didnt have any light on the road right in front of my truck or to the sides. I seemed to dangerous for me so I went to the SilverStars. But since then I have found these people and they make an excelent product. www.cqlight.ca They make a kit that cost $200 and it is coplete. Balast,Harness,Ignitor and all the brackets and tieraps you will need to finish the job. I have them on my 01 Tahoe and they work perfectly and look great. I got the 8000k and I love them. I want them on my GN but I want the Hella or the Cibie's conversions they have the headlight lens cut just like the sealed beams to light the road like they are supposed to.

Also the conectors are water tight and very profesional looking. I was very impressed. I have 2 other buddies who have gotten them from CQ and they are also very satisfied. Hope this helps you guys looking for HID conversions for any car you own.


I also bought an extra bulb $50 just in case I am on a trip and one blows. Just a good idea for and instant change on the road. I have had them for 4 months now and still kicking a$$.
