Has anyone cracked TA Headers?

If so what did it take? EGTs? Were they the mild steel or stainless?

I know 1 fella that did it on a mid 9 sec. car.

I know the headers were stainless, but I can't give anymore info about the tune/egt's and stuff.

The car popped very bad due to a cam sensor mishap....twice. That may be the reason they cracked....who knows?? Anyways, we just welded up where they cracked and all is good now

I was talking about you, but didn't know if you wanted me putting all your business on the net...Just figured I'd relay what I did know, which was that I knew of a set that had cracked.

ANY turbo header WILL crack. The material you use only prolongs the inevitable. The best material is inconel, but is nearly the price of gold, 321 stainless is the second choice, but also real expensive. Then comes 304 which is the most common, then there is the typical factory stuff which is usually 409 SS. Then there is coated mild steel, then uncoated mild steel. Aluminum will work, too, if you only need to run it for a few minutes at low boost.

For the ULTIMATE in turbo header material, buy a few boxes of u-bends made out of "unobtainium". It is the ONLY material that will NEVER crack....EVER!! NASA uses it on everything! Very pricey, and you have to wait FOREVER to get it.

This is very impressive. I know there are a bunch of folks running these headers and thus far only one crack has been discussed. That speaks volumes.


Ken the biggest hurdle with Unobtainium is that the headers would have to be billet pieces. There is no way to weld Unobtainium. I'm sure they make for nice set of billet headers but for the money I'd go with a set of Adamantium headers. They probably won't have the thermal qualities of a billet set of Unobtainium headers but again for the difference in price I would be able to afford to retrieve a baby blanket from the Planet Krypton debri field and use it to wrap the headers.

Sorry this is FALSE Info..... the Adamantium headers crack as well..... cool thing is they fix themselves and the cracks disappear..... lol
