Haunted TV

I have no idea where to start with this one so I figured I start with my smart Buick bretheren.

I have a 57" Sony rear projection TV. It's fairly new, like late 2003. Tonight it began acting funny. If it's on and you get within about 3 feet of it, it shuts off. If you back up and approach it again it will turn back on once you get within about 3 feet of it. If it's turned off, and you walk by within the 3 foot range it will turn itself on. I tried sneaking up on it, crawling on the floor, and it doesn't do this. Only when you stand up does it behave this way. Otherwise it functions normally. Responds to the remote just fine.

I put all of the remotes in a different room just in case they were sending stray signals to it. Still does the same thing.

I have to say this is totally f'd up. I've never heard of anything like it. I don't know where to begin trouble shooting. Not sure if I should contact Sony or an exorcist.

Any ideas?

I figured it out. There was a remote that I had missed. It wasn't even for the TV but it was wedged under a piece of equipment with the power button pressed. When you got into range the IR would bounce off of you and shut off the TV. You had to be standing up, though, or the IR would go over you. It was weird.

I guess eventually the battery would've gone dead in the remote.
