My TR is stock and I'm looking to go low 11's eventually. First, upgrade after the common fuel and exhaust stuff is to install heads and cam. I figure it's better to start there since the stock turbo will respond well to the better flowing engine. I don't want to go the alm. GN1 route, so I'm asking who does everyone reccomend for ported stock heads and which cam and roller rockers should I go with? I'm thinking about giving the guys at AZ GN a call. Who's done business with them? results?

Nick, at AZ GN does great work and he gets your stuff done quick! Best in the country! He works with many 11 and 10 sec GN's daily. I wouldn't go with anybody else. Shoot him an email, im sure he would get things squared away with you as far as your heads and cam concerns go. email: arizonagn@earthlink.net

Cams: DO NOT go too big. Our cars do not need big cams.
A friend a mind went consistent 11.1 @ 124 with a CC 218/218 and stock non-ported heads. I have witnessed similiar times with even a smaller cam.

Heads: Spend your money here and not on high dollar cams and rockers.

These cars will dip way into the 11s with the stock setup and a bigger turbo.

Plenty of proven combos on this board using mostly stock engines.

Good luck with your setup :)

look at the gnttype old articles of tim stockwell. Untouched motor going into the 10's. Basically you need a combination of turbo, fuel supply, exhaust, stall converter and traction, race fuel, and you will be set!!

........What is listed here is the combination I used to run a full weight, loaded with options, completely internally stock motored, stock transmission and convertered '87 Turbo Regal into the 10.70's at well over 123 mph through full exhaust.

Just to clear things up, Stockwell's car had/has a stock torque converter...

If the engine is running well I WOULD NOT pull the heads off as that only adds around 40hp with ported iron heads/intake.

I have a friend with 100K mile stock unopened factory built longblock with only $40 valvespring upgrade (stock springs get tired). Then he added a TE-64 turbo, 50lb MSD injectors, 3" TH downpipe, and PTE FMIC with LS1MAF+ Translator. Built turbo with 9/11 convertor and stock rear end with G80 posi and Nitto DR's 275/50/15 mainly.

TTop GN weighs 3850lbs with driver and has gone mid 11's@121.5MPH on slicks and tons of high 11's on Nittos. IF the car weighed about 300lbs less it would be in the 10's.

I would suggest mods similar to above and not take the engine apart. ONce you learn to tune and max out this combo then maybe think about heads/cam (expensive upgrades and labor intensive).

Same guy on conservative 21* timing, 100 octane/2 gallons 116, 29psi boost, made 526rwhp/658rwtq locking up the torque convertor. He has been pushing this car hard for 3-4 years with no problems yet.

I would do injectors/turbo/intercooler/downpipe and LS1 MAF + Translator. Then have Jay Jackson (YgetV8) modify your stock TB (57mm) and open it up to 62/65mm for $80.

Good luck,

GNX7

QuickWrench....

You've got some pretty good looking numbers for the combo your running...

GNX7, do you think that ported heads only gain 40hp. I am not disagreeing with you was just wondering if you had any experience. I just sent mine off and hope to gain more. Would one gain more out of ported heads with a bigger turbo?? I always thought that the more air you get in the faster you would go, and if you improve the longblock the turbo will work that much better and the power will come easier. Perhaps I am wrong, but I have no experience yet.
