head bolt sealant

THIS is personal preference. I have used Permatex thread sealant with Teflon for MANY years with great success. Others HATE it! Some use Loctite , others use slicone. Which is better........blonds or red-heads? :D

I've used the permatex in the white tube (unsure of exact formula but I'll check) on a couple of engines, both studs and headbolts and haven't had any leaks. I do all my torqueing before it sets up and let it set awhile before I fire it.

ok, I got the book out, Permatex recommends without teflon for head bolts, it also is rated @400 deg vs 350 with teflon.

I want the teflon to help "lube" the threads for a more uniform torque. If my water/cylinder block ever come close to 350*................I've got REAL problems, none of it being water leaking past the head bolts.
