hi gang, have oppurtunity to get my heads back on today,

i have permatex #2 wich i have used in past on my chevy with no problems, howvere should this be ok for the buick or should i wait till i can get a hold of the ARP thread sealer..

i havnt used arp before, but have recently used permatex teflon sealer, and didnt like it for the head bolts, is the arp stuff like this? thought i read that it is a teflon product

any info geratly appreciated

OK I decided on sealer, now torque??

well from chat, and search, i see others agree to use the #2 stuff, i recently used the teflon and i dont think it held up either, some bolts were wet.

also when i called up arp they gave me 65ft also

i am using the hex head style bolt for 85 block, and i guess it is the weaker of two bolts available???

so do you think i should push torque on this bolt also? 75 85?

i am using 85 gm shim gaskets

thanks

I am right in the middle of this task too. i used PST on the ARP bolts six months ago and when i pulled heads, 14 of 16 head bolts were wet up to the bolt head. I am still convinced that PST is the right sealer to use, just have to make sure and coat all the threads down to the root of the threads with sealer this time and q-tip the last few threads in each hole in the block with sealer. I am installing Cometic multi-layer steel headgaskets this time. I believe i am probably the first or one of the first in the country to use them as the P/N just came out last week. I will report back on how they work. New gasket technology sounds awesome!

thanks

thanks for the responses guys

specially on the 2a and 2b thing topjimmy

saved me from buying another tube, went with the #2 on threads ,oil on the heads, copper spray on gaskets, torqued to 85 ,gonna recheck tomorow, and will try again after warm up

see what happens, also got the gm seal tabs so hope this all does the trick

Hate to tell you this but my local mcahine shop guy has been trying to get me to use these gaskets for 2 years (not that a Turbo Buick-specific part number was available, but he told me that they did have such a gsket available).

Maybe that should be my next route....
