Anybody here from NYC or go alot? The wife and I decided to go up there next week for a small vacation/getaway and staying in Midtown/Manhattan. We will be there from Sun-Thurs. Anything, besides the typical, we should not miss? Any tips or general info would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Dont ride around with outta town plates, take travelers checks and a little cash prepare to cuss and swear alot if you are driving, activate the gps in your cell phone,(it still may n ot work well cause of all the tall bldgs), im sure im forgettin stuff..

Crap......I figured as much. I better go hide my spring time car fund stash.

Last time I was there

$3- coke can at EMPIRE state building

$7 hamberger from the dollar menu at mcdonalds  just kidding on that one.

Lots of sidewalk vendors pitching fake watches & handbags

My favorite is near the outskirts all the CARCASSES of HIGH end SUV's sitting on blocks

We will be flying in, no way would I drive around there, my patience behind the wheel isn't good.

Museum of Natural history or museum of Art is interesting.

Dont wear ur jewelry outside ur clothes. Manhatten is a pretty safe place tho.

Was there today actually and MFing it. Traffic there is like being in India. Don't try to drive around if you want to see things. Park and take a taxi or take the subway. Subway is safe but no exposed jewelry as said.

Oh and dont forget taxis like to play chicken with pedestrians at the intersections.

Go to times square. A lot of it is blocked off now for pedestrian travel. Times Square became a pedestrian mall, with cars forbidden on Broadway between 42nd and 47th streets.

There are plenty of tourist buses to take as well. There is also a helecopter ride around (not over) the city.

why would you or anyone else want to go to newjork? you can stay home and get treated like **** for free here in chi

I like chicago, been there several times. If it was up to my wife we would move up there. Not gonna happen.

Is there anywhere you can go these days and not get treated like poo, on a non-millionaires bank account?

Go to Little Italy for dinnner at least one night.

DiNico's for dinner and then walk around the corner to Ferraras for dessert.

I can honestly say i would live in the new york area i have always had fun when i ever i went.

I lived in New York for almost 20 years and worked in Time square and midtown for most of that time. People that are not from NYC always has his mental image of NYC based on what they see in movies or what they were told. Definitely visit Central Park and take the J train to brooklyn and visit Peter Luger steak house. If you want to sample food from around the world then NYC midtown is where its at.

keep your eyes and ears open......take it all in. nyc gets a bad rap cause it appears to be dangerous but......it is as long as you dont put yourself in a bad position....nyc is great.... but for me the congestion is horrible and the comute sux.....i only visit the city a few times a year and im only 20 miles away.....

ive been going in and out everyday for 17yrs and there are way too many places to see. i can tell you all the good bars but the wife might not like them:D your best bet is to stop at a new stand and get a N.Y.C. Guide. theyre pretty cheap and you can both decide what to see. AQnd dont worry its pretty safe there too, just dont flash money or jewlery, the scammers can spot a tourist a mile away.
