I have seen it mentioned on this site & others like it, that to spend for headers is a waste of money, unless you are in the 10's.
The headers, for me at the point I am at , seem to be the next logical mod. Though I am no where near fast, let alone 10's yet.
I'm considering them because I have allready welded my stock ones. & will probably have to remove & re weld next year---which i really don't want to do.
Tony at postons say's yep BIG improvement. of course he sell's em
your thoughts on this

headers

The stock 84-85 headers are a BIG restriction. I agree that on the 86-87 cars, those headers will work well into the tens, but not the 84-85.

My poston headers made a huge difference in the car. Plus they are built stout to not crack and break as easily (if at all). But I had a 3in single shot exhaust already installed.

Everything is more of a restriction on a hotair. the more restrictions you can get out of the way the better.

If I had to list the restrictions to get out of the way from the most to the least important, it would be this.

Exhaust
Downpipe
Intake
Headers

Lee may have more or better advice, he is the man on the hotairs.

:D If you got the $$$, I would go this route: Mease 3" DP with the 3" dump, Poston headers and the ATR Up-Pipe.

The headers are about 450 I believe, the DP and Dump are the same, 450, and the up-pipe is 99...so, for 1000, you got a powerhouse of nearly no restrictions.

If you havent already ported the intake, do it...heads next....Make sure they are atleast gasket matched. I am going more on all my parts....I am maxing out everything!

So....Get the $$$, and that will get those times to creep down!!!

I have been trying to make a contact with the folks at Mease. Called the phone # & no answer. Anyone have a way to get in touch with them??

Good part about winter coming here in NY state...gives me a chance to save for the big purchases for next season

I just did the poston headers, x over, up pipe, and a 3inch replacement pipe that bolts to stock elbow. My driver and pass headers were cracked about 1 inch. I bought a used set of postons and the pass header was cracked about an inch so i got it welded. When i layed side by side the new and old pass header there is a huge difference in the main tube size. The car sounds better, has quicker spool, better top end but i did loose a little bottom end. And you can hear the turbo alot more. I am happy, just waiting on my mease down pipe so i can get rid of that stock elbow. I will be selling my stock stuff along with the 3 inch replacement down pipe if anyone is interested. I think if you do headers get the 2 piece x over with band clamp to allow flex to prevent header cracks.
