I recently bought a T-type and it has a crack in the driver side header on the #5 tube.
I was wondering what is the best thing to do? Have the stock one fixed or buy aftermarket setup. What would be the best aftermarket ones?
I was told by the previous owner that it has a TE61 turbo. The other mods include thdp, aftermarket MAF, big filter and MAF tube, injectors (size he did not know), chip ( he does not remember) tranny work (doesn't know what). He said he would locate all of the info and mail it to me but nothing yet. I ahve called and left three messages and no return call. I have his name and address and he said that Art Carr in Texas intsalled all of the mods so if anyone knows Art Carr's # let me know maybe I can get the info from them.

I plan to add the big mouth cold air kit and a front mount intercooler when I can get the cash. I first have to fix the exhaust since we have emissions insp here and the cat was removed.

Any recommendations on headers and front mount intercooler is very much appreciated.

Best bet is to get the stock header fixed. That is, welded properly. However, if you want to go with an aftermarket header, I have an ATR SS one for sale.

As for the front mount, my opinion is that they are not worth it unless you are running seriously fast. The stock intercooler is remarkably good, also in my opinion.

has anyone installed poston headers?
Are they good quiality? do the provide any gains? Thay have a lifetime warranty are ceramic coated and are $495.
I would have my stock one fixed if I had a spare head to use for the repair to prevent warping. The repair would be arounf $80.

I have Poston hedders on my car. The performance gain was probably a result of no more exhaust leaks. I also ordered their crossover pipe. My original leaked (after the hedder install). The quality seems pretty good and they've been installed for over a year.

I got mine welded. Definatley the cheapest way to go.

go ahead and get the drivers head welded, make sure it's tig welded, if you use a good welder, it woulds not have to be mounted to anything, tig welding makes better weld with less heat than mig.....many have posted before...stock headers are good into the 10's!!

both my hotair and i/c headers were welded up by a buddy at local muffler shop.

first they were sand blaste then welded with regular mig and o the dr. side i/c header i added a piece of flat bar between #3 and #5 cylinder tubes about half way down to support them from moving around with temp. changes

so far neither set has recracked.

If you are running slower than 12.5's you will most likely see no gain from aftermarket headers..may even slow the car down some. As said before, the stock header is not the best design but works great, even into the 10's. Some have cut the flange in between #3-#5 tubes to allow some flex when driving. You can also add a torque strap to prevent future cracking if you have it "fixed".
