Has anyone done, or can you lend a suggestion as too how difficult it would be to remove a headliner from an 87 regal "T"? *The Sunroof door materials falling down, (and the rest of the liner is coming down as well). On my other Regals (with no T-Tops / or Sunroof) it wasn't too bad to order new fabric and do the job myself, and the outcome was pretty good. Here however, It looks to be more "intimidating".

Can someone recommend something OR should I just have it done (at an upholstery shop).

Thanks in advance

I've done a full headliner in a Grand Prix twice. It's not difficult, you can do it in an afternoon.

You'll need to go to a fabric store and get new headliner material. It's foam backed, and they should have a nice grey that perfectly matches the factory cloth. Also grab a can of the 3M automotive spray adhesive. Don't spring for the cheaper stuff from other brands, they won't hold up to the temperature swings inside a car interior.

Then you simply remove the interior plastic panels and trim, then the clothes hanger hooks, and then CAREFULLY remove the headliner shell from the car. You'll need to recline both seats to flat and do some twisting, but you can get it out in one piece.

Once it's out, set it on a table, pull off the old fabric, and carefully scrape all the old foam off the shell. Once it's clean, cut a big piece of the new fabric and lay it on to make sure it fits, then pull it off and lay it next to the headliner shell, foam side up.

Take the 3M spray, and liberally apply it to both the headliner shell and the foam side of your new fabric. Let it sit for a few minutes to tack up, and then carefully stick the fabric to the shell. Roll it on carefully starting from one end and slowly working to the other to prevent wrinkles. Once it's all on, trim off the excess and cut out your moonroof hole, and put it back in the car.

Repeat the process with the sunroof door.

Good luck!

hello and what's happenin; There are vendors that sell a fiberglass headliners that might be a good choice. And if you have a factory moonroof I belive there's one made for you. I believe they come rolled up and if you've done the job already that's a way to go. Cardboard backed HL will last a few years
and will be cheaper. The clips I'm hearing can be a pain.
have fun but when I get mine done I'm going to a shop.

Thanks to the both of you. ;) I pulled the driver-side A pillar out today (to mount some instruments a-top that same same pillar) ... AND I noticed theirs a seal / or a "trim ring molding" around the perimeter of the FACTORY Moon-Roof that shrank about an inch, *it's pulled away from the round corners (that it 'rounds') to "trim out" the roof's opening edge ... anyway, I gently pulled on the headliner (around that same perimeter area), and it did not want too budge. (BTW it's Burgundy in color if that matters). I guess what I'm trying to convey is that the dome light (on the "regular" headliner tops I mentioned above), are held at the center by the actual dome light, (and the outer clips you spoke of , DO THE Rest. *(around the OUTER headliner perimeter), *THIS ONE is held up differently as tho it were clipped / or screwed in (and at) the center.
AND, being that this "trim molding" shrank, ... I'll bet it needs to be replaced as well !

Boy I'll tell ya, theirs no "give" at all when you gently pull down around the moon-roof area in the center .... I mean NONE !

What the heck, I may just call an see what "they" get for this type of job at the trim shop.

AGAIN, I sure APPR. your help Gentleman !
