Thanks all!

Scott:D

P.S. Free Carfax reports from me till april 1st. email me with title "carfax scott" <---just a little something to help the buick community out while I have the account.

If you use studs for the intake manifold, how will the manifold slide on ?!! The bolts/studs do not all point in the same direction ...

I just did this over the past few days.

The Helicoil kit you need is #5546-8 (M8x1.25). Comes with the Helicoils, tap, and installation tool. You'll also need a 21/64 drill bit. I did 3 holes with it and it worked awesome.

As far as the studs go, see this thread at one of the other boards:

Scott4DMny,

do you mean the "intake manifold" or the "dog house" on top ??

Thanks, that power 6 forum really helped. Now my last question is how tight to put the studs in. Finger tight? use a pair of channellocks??? Thanks

I jammed a couple of nuts together and wound the studs down with a wrench. You can feel them bottom out - just take it easy. If you get studs with longer-than-stock threads you may be able to get past the stripped threads and down into good stuff without having to install a Helicoil - worked for me on one of them.

Good luck,
Jim

Well I just finished helicoiling, and I must say, it was actually FUN! It took me less than an hour, and everything went in smoothly! I actually got scared because that drill bit they give you really grabs the intake and you cant really hold it. It grabs so hard it practically locks it in there. But after the drilling and tapping everything was smooth. I WOULD do it again if I had the chance. :D Now just gotta wait for those studs to come in. Anyone know what lengths. Keep in mind I have a Precision plenum with RJC power plate.

You can use 30mm on 3 of them and 60mm on 2 of them (the back 2 for the throttle bracket and the vacuum pipes). If you want to use acorn nuts you may need to trim the 30mm ones down a bit.
