Just installed a stainless steel oil line kit - tapping the return line into the oil pan. Then I took the 87 style plenum off and installed an RJC perf plate.
Filled it up with 10W30 synthetic Amsoil and started it up.

It starts burning oil...it has never burnt oil in the past to any measurable amount. There was so much smoke I couldnt believe it. After filling it with 5 quarts and running it for about 10 mins I shut it off. I check the stick and its dry !!!! I had a small puddle of oil / condensation dripping from the tailpipe!!!
I had to add 2 more quarts just to hit the add one qt point !

In the past I dont recall using synthetic oil...this is the first. Im sure this is not the problem though.....it used up a boatload of oil in very little time.

I checked the up-pipe and throttle body - no oil in there. Only thing I can figure is I have a bad valve seal....seems real fluke though....still have to pull the plugs to look at them.

Any thoughts ????

Just went through this same thing and ended up pouring 1.5 quarts of oil out of the intake. (YES, you read it correctly).
Luckily, (for me) oil pressure never dropped below 20.

I am sure you verified that the oil was not leaking on the floor? Sounds like a turbo seal to me. (PS: Turbo was a fresh rebuild)

Yup - none on the floor.

Pulled the TB and IC pipes off fearing it was in the intake. None there - so that side of the turbo is ok. Is it possible its leaking thru the exhaust seal into the exhaust side ???

I was wondering if somehow the oil didnt want to go to the pan...was backing up the line and causing pressure inside the turbo....I dont have any kinks in the line....least I dont see any.....

My line is tapped into the pan at about 1/2 way btwn top and bottom of the pan. I figure the oil level has to be above the point where its tapped into. Could this cause the oil not to travel into the pan and back up the line ?? You figure the oil is getting pumped into the turbo as well as out of it so why would it back up the line....???

I would lean heavily toward oil backing up in the drainback tube and passing through the exhaust side. The oil is not supposed to be forced out under pressure, that's why the drainback is much bigger than the feed line. I believe the drainback tube should be above the level in the pan.

Cool 84 - I agree 100%.

I tried messing with it again today. After being under the car for about an hour - plus the purchase of this oil return kit and having the bung welded in the pan - oh add in the hassle of the re and re the pan and x-over pipe - I find that this damn thing doesnt work.

Basically its due mostly in part to the bung being below the oil level in the pan. Theres just no place higher to access the pan due to everything else in the way (starter, converter insp cover, etc). All that expense and hassle and now I find myself plugging the hole I paid 40 bucks to have a guy weld a bung in.

What now ?

I guess I might try to either a) weld another bung in the end of the PS valve cover or b) try and cobble up some solution to shorten the stainless line in this kit and have it stuffed into the original rubber leaky grommet in the manifold.

Id really like to avoid using the orig spot again - unless I could somehow find a NPT fitting to put there instead of the rubber grommet to avoid the leaks. I was thinking about finding a fitting - shortening the line and JB Welding the fitting to the top of the manifold in place of the grommet. I think that would be my solution - any thoughts ???
